Kind of frustrating after 3 years of having my GTX 260 with zero problems, an old corpie of mine suggested the HD 6870s as they out performed the GTX 400 series while being cheaper, so I went with it. I also bought a second HD 6870 back in March so I am stuck with these for awhile as they are great cards outside of the fact that I cannot multi-monitor clients anymore.

How come mate?
When i was using 5770, active eve screen was going 60 fps, secondary was at 30.
With 6850, they both run at 60fps on their LCDs (v-sync), no drops or problems at all.

Multiboxing eve clients on a 1900x1200/60 screen and a 2560x1440/60 screen gave me headaches on my 6950, but that turned out to be the crappy miniDP adapter.

Replaced with a higher quality cable and the problem went away, other than that I can say everything has been extremely stable.

It is explained in my own thread about the issue but my computer completely locks up and I have to force restart after trying to move even just one client, from one monitor to another.

There seems to be a high correlation with the type of sockets users who are affected by the lockups have.
Users with cpu socket 1155 and with ATI 7000 series do not seem to have lockups.

Just a reminder for those who haven't read the entire thread is that there are few games out there that lock up with ATI 7000 series. Eve and Total War are one of them. Other games don't lock up.

As stated above, Shogun Total War 2 have this same issue with the 7970 card, which i have experienced myself aswell.

For STW2 there is a sollution tho, you can play the game in DX9 instead of in DX11, which works for me without a single crash as of yet.

Not sure what DirectX that EVE even uses but it might be worth checking into.
Personally i don't even know where i would start so ill leave that to those who actually know something about this stuff.

EDIT: And yes, i also experience this playing EVE, got 6 during a 4 hour corp op the other day, oh the fun.

Client runs fine dual boxing, 2 ATi GPU's in crossfire.

I am getting some odd glitches with the actual Game client, were not the only ones and iv never seen so many complaints before.

Does eve even support crossfire?

I have my ATI cards (6970) deliberately not configured as crossfire and instead assign two clients to each card starting up from their own folder. This seems to work fine and gives me a measure of control and less spookyness. Just make sure that the clients you assign to a card have their output to the monitors connected to them, else you get a very bad slowdown.

I am serious!

It happens to more than just people who Crossfire.

Just to give you an update guys. As most of you are, I was fed up of these freezes and had to make a choice. I had the following options:

a) Buying a new video card Nvidia GTX670/680 (I could not exchange my ATI 7970).
b) Buying a new motherboard (with AGP 3.0) + cpu 1155 Ivy Bridge
c) Just wait

I went with b) as it is a bit cheaper than a). I took a risk because if the earlier hypothesis was not true it would end up more expensive than expected.

I built the new rig yesterday and spent the whole day today playing. So far I have had no freeze.

I will update this thread if I have any freeze.

Interesting info about the CPU sockets, i got a 7970 and a i7 920 (1366 socket), loads of freezes (see my earlier posts in the thread). Installed my old 5870, so now i can play at least...

I know, I had almost the same setup (7970+i7 930) which was causing freezes and before that crossfire 5870 +i7 930 and no problem whatsoever.

Bump. No new drivers from AMD for awhile and no fix with the big update from August 8th.
