What does my ship's crew do?

For a ship's captain, I feel like I have to micro-manage an awful lot that I should be able to delegate to my crew. If I actually had a crew, I should be able to issue the command, "Go loot that wreck" and forget about it entirely from there. I shouldn't have to see the wreck's can, I should click the button and then my crew would fly the ship to the wreck, and then it would load up into my cargo bay.

Then again, they may have a little more initiative if I actually paid them or something...

The point of the pod is so one person can effectively replace the command structure of the ship... what crew you have left are there for maintenance. This way decisions can be made faster and less crew perish whenever you blow up.

Currently my crew reload my missile launchers. Later if I want to try pvp they might be a part of glorious explosions as my ships go down in flames.

I have no idea what your crew does, but I would venture a guess and say the same as mine :)

my crew is AFK

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Crew is cool but it is unlikely to work here in EVE as it is atm.

As somebody stated, the lore states the capsule pod took over the hoards of crewmen. I'm not a fan of that either.

Just about that random suggestion you made, that would unfortunately boost botting. Just as a reminder.
I do like the idea of dispatching some sort of looting/salvage/scavenger shuttle, but this is neither star trek, nor bsg nor homeworld.

I don't want to hijack your thread/idea but what about this:

- How about crew-related modules that could feature what you said nonetheless (regardless of botting, can't stop in anyways).

Or, a crew-related ship with "crew-related" modules and/or "drones" (actually dudes in smaller extraction shuttles) would be interesting.
Introducing industrial ships that, say, could be controlled by your alt/yourself. You move it into the battlefield and start collecting.

I wish this would be a cynojump-capable ship.

Anyhow, post some more on what you thought about. It is not that bad if you ask me.
Right now, people have to do way too much logistics just to get things done.

It's a long requested feature that CCP wants to implement. The did a whole article on it in EON, but it was aboput how complicated it was to do and why they couldn't do it easily.

More of fluff, but what about more voice acting as an option?

We have Aura, but what about more voices.

I know this is not Homeworld Cataclysm, but I'd instantly fall in love with some commander dude saying "Align to xzy", "Engage Warp!" -- "All hands abandon ship! All -- *boom*"

You know.
But that is just "Ear Candy".

@Droxlyn
Can you give us more on what you thought about crew?

NPCs in Eve are utterly incompetent seems to be the theme of how the game works.

The only thing ships crew are good for is engaging the emergency/jumpgate cloaking device when you go unconscious.

[Insert general ranting about stupid easy stuff that isn't easy here, your pick.]

(This thread is me picking on the ship's crew more than actually asking for a change. Maybe some lore that explains their behavior.)

Making something easy to do or make it require less button presses does not make it "bot friendly"

I'm gonna stick with the lore on this one, having to manage a crew of a titan for instance would be annoying at best

My crew does the actual lifting of stuff from wrecks to the hold. Otherwise they are drinking in the galley and making fun of how I fly.
