Ive been combat probing and have found a few ships and now have their signature ID's I believe. When I probed them, I did the normal save location when it was at 100%. Now does that just save their location at the time, or do I now have the ships ID and can find it anytime?

Just the location where you picked up the signal while probing. Obviously if you stop triangulating the signal, you won't know if it has stayed there or moved.

Ok thanks. I asked because I read someone posted that you can permanently have a persons ship ID. Just wondering if there was a way to track people.

Ship ID's are now static unless they are repackaged.

The ship ID is just a serial number. It serves no purpose in tracking the location of a ship.

If you want to track a ship that is not stationary, you might need to probe them repeatedly and/or use the directional scanner.

If you want to track someone across multiple solar systems you may need to do it by providing the pilot's name to a tracking agent or by some other means.

Ahh I see. Ill have to look into this tracking agent stuff when I eventually go looking for bounties.
