Barge Changes.... Why not just make them a new ship class?

If you're going to play with the barge stats and such, why not make them an additional ship class and discontinue the availability of the old yet leave them in the game? They'll still be around and such, but make them the "NEW 2012 Hulk by ORE". Yes I want to see a new profession of Used Car Salesman in EVE!! Big smile

I got to page 14 of the threadnaught and will head back to reading it, but the biggest thing I'm taking away from it is if you're going to change anything on them, change CPU and PG.

I also like the idea of bigger belt rats in highsec. Force some of the companies mining to actually have a Drake out there for fleet protection while you have an Orca and 2-3 hulks going.

I don't like the suicide ganking, but I have a healthy respect for their art. Last time I was ganked it was a beautiful kill with coordinated cormorants sweeping thru the system, sinking my Hulk and podding me (if I recall) and by the time that I got back into the area the group already had their badger slurping up the mods. That was smart and quick and clean, didn't even know what hit me and I wasn't AFK. However I learned and tanked my Hulks better to the sacrifice of yield.

I don't like the idea of a smaller barge having equal to or greater than EHP of a Hulk. That's just weird.

Anyway... reading on!

Thanks, pvper alt. Too bad you aren't a real miner and could talk about it from that perspective. I think they are adding some more cpu at least, maybe pg but forgot. I am looking forward to it.

If they had bigger rats in hi sec, would make too much money off of it.

nope, no pg or cpu increase.

and bigger rats would pop new players, nothing to do with isk.

Posting in yet another poorly disguised Barge whine thread. Roll

Space. It seems to go on and on forever. But then you get to the end and a gorilla starts throwing barrels at you.

PvP alt? HA!!!!!! You flatter me sir...

I can't remember the last time I sacked someone... Oh wait... That's probably because I never have.... :)
Tom's Killboard Link… Sad ain't it?

I'm more industry than miner I suppose, as I enjoy the building and sale of ships. There isn't money in mining rocks, refining rocks and selling them. Taking the refined and building something from it on the other hand, not bad.

I still think that there shouldn't be AFK mining and if you are there's a consequence to that. If gankers help control that then more's the better.

How many new players are going straight into mining lately anyway that aren't bots?

Don't mind him. He just gets a little antsy when a fellow carebear disagrees with him. Or when anyone else does for that matter.

Amusingly enough, I just saw a thread dedicated to that on an external forum.

Bah, I'm in Washington state, I haven't seen one here (along with other things that would make it a better place). Just an espresso stand to bar ratio of 4:1....

Blowing up miners is not "controlling bots" and anyone who tells you the sole reason they gank miners is to kill bots is lying. Controlling bots is reporting them to CCP so they can be banned. If someone is botting on however many computers, they will have enough to buy another hulk and continue on, you may have slowed them, but you are not beating them out of the game.

I am tired of self righteous gankers claiming it's all about the bots, b***s***, it is about getting your jollies ganking someone, and that is just fine if that's what you like to do. But quit coming here with bs about how gankers are cleansing our universe.

Sure CCP likely doesn't move as fast as we may like but a ban slows a botter more than a small dent in their pocketbook.

Moral of the story? Report botter, then blow them up and move on, just stop with the lies.

Ah I saw someone's comment on the new barges, besides hulk no new getting CPU and the rest getting CPU and some getting that as well as pg buffs. Maybe its not a true comment though. Too bad, was hoping for it.

You have a very sound point that I agree with.

How would you discourage AFK mining (from actual warm bodies)?

I guess like most things, we'll see what they finally decide when it's released and messes with economics again for a while. I haven't seen PG and CPU buffs in the works so far. Just tank, tank and tank.

Wasn't meant to flatter really.

I did join this game to mine originally, but fell for other players hints and strategies. Like how roids were suppose to be better at lower secs. Like .5 space. So I went down there for pyroxeres, but all the mining corps would gobble them up too fast. If I logged in the night time here or afternoon, most or all of them would be gone. So I faced longish training times to get the hulk, plus logging on and having no roids. Wasn't too fun.

Now I know that even .8 space isnt too bad at all. As well as the hulk too gankable, no real reason to have it. A mining corp is a fun though, but I had moved on to missions and other professions, so havn't had the time to lvling mining.

Yeah tank and nerfs, but I might have been short sighted on their nerfs. Was thinking/getting hinted at that the hulk nerfs are part of a larger CCP plan, but not sure or what time frame that is suppose to be worth it.

They stated, their goal is to make the hulk a fleet ship, that is why they nerfed its cargo. That might hint at buffing the hulk or giving it more qualities once it is in a fleet, or can only be operated in one. We shall see if they do improve it after it has to be tied to an orca to operate or how long it will take for the hulk to get them.

Oh well that's good Big smile, I don't think I could PvP my way out of a paper bag... Big smile (and yeah I know I need to work on it.... )

I joined for the mining/building aspects of it and a decent attempt at being a space merchant / arms dealer.

I lost a bunch of ships and was ganked a bunch when I was down in Onnamon which led me to join the crazy aussie corp (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3TpJZVOUdo for more (unknowing at the time... oh the naivety of being a under 2mil sp toon). It was pretty lousy, however finally getting out of NPC and meeting some folks was good. Ended up leaving drama, creating new corp, trying still to keep it drama free and helpful to it's membership.

So glad learning skills are no longer here.... shudders....

A mining corp is fun as long as people are on and chattin. It's that social interaction that really makes it for me. I do agree that the Hulk is too gankable, however I think the changes to the line are just too much. Hence why not make them another class, like a T3 barge or something like that to aspire to. Give me a reason to train something again for mining....

There was such a huge sense of accomplishment when you finally got Astrogeology V done... :)

The hulk already is a fleet ship. You waste so much time trying to solo with a hulk with warping back and forth or jet canning. If you're running a hulk you need a dedicated hauler. What is it, a can every 12-15 minutes or so? I forget and I don't want to break out the calculator... seems about right tho... The nifty thing about having a Orca is that it's a armored can and gives you bonuses that make the hulk even more sick... :)

Well if you are mostly interested in mining ships becoming T3, might want to check out the dev blog over mining changes. Lots of posts there about the desire for one.

Since joinging this game I think there was only one aspriation or goal with mining. The run 3-5 hulks and have an orca on your accounts. Like control all of them at once. Propably why so many people want the T3 mining ship, as another route with mining then the multi account setup.

To pvp your way out of a paper bag, just roll caldari and minmitar. There are other hints specifically to what you are doing, but you only wanted out of the bag.
