FW can be fun but depending on what you like to fly it may or may not be fun. If you like to fly mostly frigates and destroyers then you'll probably enjoy it and find plenty of fights. Battlecruisers and up...not so much.

If you want to do fleet action, particularly with BCs and up, you need to join a FW corporation. It's not hard, there are lots of decent ones. General militia is a cesspit of LP farming nullbear alts, spy alts, and new players who mean well but don't really know wtf they're doing, so FCs are leery of pilots without a proper corp. As well, the corp is the only real support structure you can expect in FW; to my knowledge, none of the militia are organized at this point beyond the corp level.

If you mostly want to solo, General Militia is fine, but you'll have other problems. Getting a decent 1v1 or 1v2 fight can be damned near impossible sometimes if you aren't aggressively leveraging plexes, the downside of which is if you feel like flying in something that isn't very good for plexes you run into problems. Also, expect the usual lowsec retardation (ten master baiters for every solo target, instalock t3 camps with orcas to dump their ships into if they get engaged, etc).

Frex, tonight I had great fleet action, several protracted engagements with a couple logis on each side. And a series of terribad solo fights where I got punked out by blobs of varying sizes, a couple more or less easy kills, and the closest thing to a good 1v1 fight got stomped by another dude undocking.

not been in FW for years now. But it was so much fun, fights, emos, tears, drama.

Even now, as a low sec pirate my game is made much better for it being here.

weather you like to RP or just make stuff explode, it's chuffing awesome.

There are many good pvp corps too, SOTF and Wolfsbrigade would match ANY "pro" 0.0 corps.

There is no better place for small gang pvp and soloing and 100vs100 or more is not unheard of.

Having highsec logistics is very critical especially as your FW mains will rapidly approach -10, but if you don't have your own you can use Red Frog/Black Frog or rely on corpmates.

As a new player this is why i don't want to have anything to do with Faction war. Oh and that craziness with negative faction standings even if I fix security status? Grinding my limited game time away to fix that stuff? No thx.

To be honest, I am not even on the same playing field as most of the elite FW players here, and I still make enough isk on a monthly basis to pay for plexes for both my main account and my alt freighter pilot's account. It's not hard at all. Plus I actually like having the logistics of a frieghter now, it makes the market PVP so much more tolerable.

As for having low sec status, you can avoid it, most FCs will call primary on neutrals but let the fleet know it's not necessary to go Pie. Sometimes however it is unavoidable.

I'm not sure why so many people have a -10 security status unless they are consistently agressing neutrals (attacking an opposing faction member does not affect your status). Yes your faction standings will plummet with the opposing side but you should still have access to your militia's high-sec. I have no problems in Amarr/Caldari space for example.

By the way, anyone who says you don't need the skills to fight in FW is either a) really skilled or b) in a corp with a ship replacement program. Just saying.

You learn very quickly in FW that if a neutral invades your plex and approaches you, you don't wait for them to shoot first. You learn to make sure you enter the fight on your terms, that means engaging at your optimals in the right circumstances. Lots of pirates in low sec are yellow too, so if you shoot them first you still lose sec status.

Although in my case, I blame Chatgris for my Sec Status problems :P

My main in FW never undocks, i only troll all channels and whine how bad FW is.

But with my alts i ofc play FW and make lot of lp and isk and lose some ships and sometimes even kill people.

Inferno was excellent boost for alts, so alts it will be.

Is there any point to join one of the NPC FW corporations?

I had my main in IC24 in 2009 for a few weeks and it was pretty easy to get into fleets without joining a player-corporation and there was a public Ventrilo server that basically everyone used for public fleets.

I have played with the thought of putting a character into FW again (not necessarily on the Amarr side) for the past few weeks but I have seen some posts that indicated a lot of paranoia rgd spies in militia chat and FW corporations doing mostly their own thing with very few FCs running public fleets.

How good an idea is it to join one of the FW NPC corporations if you are not (just) interested in solo pvp?
