Why I hate EVE online

Well I do not - but this article by a former top player states that he does:

http://www.eurogamer.dk/articles/2011-10-07-eve-online-derfor-hader-jeg-spillet-artikel

Unfortunately it is in Danish, but I hope it can still spark some discussion. The main problem seems to be that the eve online is a MMO - it would be much nicer as a one player game.

To put it short and very long.

The short version is: Because of the others. Humans. It can be hard enough to be with people you do not know really, the polite smile, small talk'en, but try it in an MMO. It is a new kind of hell, an extra circle, a new form of torture for people who, like me, go into it with an expectation that the virtual life is business as usual '.

The long, or longer, is that my experience with MMOs started with Dark Age of Camelot and ended with Eve-Online. Daoc was a classic "running around and beating goblins kill ', level-up, rinse repeat, games. The people who played, felt a little like pioneers. That was before the tsunami, is called World of Warcraft, and I do not remember the big problems with Daoc, except that it was boring. I managed to level 28th

After a few detours, I came to Eve-Online, and I can at the sacred porridge not remember how or who got me into it, but if I remember it, wanders there.

Yes, yes, Eve-Online is a fine game. Icelandic success story. A space game which Braben and Bell probably would have made it if they had been back then in 1982. One server. One galaxy. One economy. Nowadays there are reportedly over 60,000 avatars online simultaneously. Still larger fleet battles are fought among thousands of spaceships, the servers are forced to their knees and technology tacks afterwards, people become billionaires on trade and good conduct, others steal and cheat their way to success. Yes, Eve is very similar to the real world. Too much.

Eve is a great game. There is not anything much online play with so many people in. World of Warcraft, yes, preserved, which is 11:00 to 12:00 millions who play it against Eve's 300,000, but fooling around 6,000 small servers in small groups that bad coming up on the side of Tisvilde flea market on a good day in August. Well, in comparison, Eve, a large Danish provincial town, half Copenhagen, actually. There are so many people in Eve. They are everywhere. And if they are not just in the solar system, you are in, there are a myriad of chat channels where people do not know and never will meet, spewing an endless stream of vitriolske cruelty against everything and everyone.

There are people all over. And therefore I hate Eve-Online. Now you would think that it is overpopulation I allude to, but no. There are now so many sneaky worm holes, and whatever else it is stated that the room for 0.0 still feels empty in most places.

Eve is a permanent death spasm. Each one brain cell to be used, and you must have reaction abilities as a fighter pilot in order to succeed in the game. How speaks the players even if it means the other MMOs are for sissies. If you can get in Eve, you can get anywhere. It's true. If you are not a hundred percent focused, you are slipping into darkness, where you will be picked up by a virtual Charles Bronson, who without batting an eye, will undress, take everything you own and kick you in the face, just because he can. Rage quitting is everyday life in Eve.

'Just because he can' is the operational phrase here. It could be the motto of the Internet back, and it should stand on its packaging to Eve.

In Eve cultivate stupid pigs that others keep rare orchids.
After four years as alliance leader, fleet commander, politician and countless victories and more defeats, I know the game. But if I could get permission to play it alone, it would be the world's best games.

I have a theory about why Eve is still lying and messing around on some 300,000 subscribers. In the real world, life is a mixture of people you like, people you are indifferent and stupid pigs. In Eve cultivate stupid pigs that others keep rare orchids. The cocktail of unbridled gameplay zero consequences of our actions and a huge world with a population the size of Elsinore on the same server is too strong for most people.

It was Sartre who said it: L'enfer, c'est les autres. Hell, it's the others. And everyone pays 150 dollars a month to join.

Unfortunately it just like that Eve Online attracts people with personality disorders, paranoia, delusions of grandeur like no other game I've played. It is a feast for idiots. Many of them are smart enough, do not misunderstand me, but I've probably been to a party or two where there was him enormously loud, hugely inebriated guy over in the corner who came to set the tone for the rest of the party. People went home early that evening.

How is Eve, too. The game boasts that it is a reckless sandbox without limitations, and that's it. But anyone who has sat for a few hours on a random TeamSpeak server in a fleet battle, or come to hurt to read the chat in jita have experienced the feeling.

• Then there was his plumber from Texas who one day came to say that he had been in jail for 10 years. He was about fifty, Marlboro gritty voice and a personality as Papa Doc on a bad hair day.

• Or he Briton, who really had a senior position in a large corporation. He played Eve at home in his apartment every weekend and every night. In Eve, he was also head of a company. He was a skilled fleet commander, and each night he drank so much that he fell asleep at the computer with TeamSpeak open so everyone could hear his drunken snoring.

• Or the other Briton, half unemployed from London, who shamelessly took cocaine and other good things, while he played. He was hard to beat when he admitted spam chat with one outrageous incident after another.

• Or the poor kid that I did not know, either virtually or in reality that one day would chat to talk about his girlfriend who had just left him.

Yes, sometimes it becomes a little too real. Ditlevsen called, she wants her egg back snaps.

All against all, no one is safe in 0.0 space. Yeah right.
I've never had anything against the rigor of the ethics that govern Eve. All cheats everyone. The problem with that kind of Wild West atmosphere is that it only makes sense if it has consequences. In Eve, there are no consequences. Ok, so you steal 100 billion. by tricking someone into giving you access to the corp hangar. Fair enough. But how will they get at you when you can just transfer money to another account and disappear completely?

And what do the deal with 0.0 space? It sounds very cool. All against all, no one is safe in 0.0 space. Yes, ok, the problem is that those who truly have success out there, running two, three, four, five other accounts on the side. And the avatars that run on the lines are safely in the Empire and shuttle stuff back and forth or grinder NPCs so they can earn ISK to pursue the war further in 0.0. Not very hardcore when it comes down to it, with less hardcore is defined as a massive waste of life.

Take lessons from Iracing - the only MMO I bother to play nowadays. It is as hard as Eve, just as uncompromising. It's a different genre, but the principles are the same. If you run the rotten acts it forever in your statistics. Nobody can hide.

Oh, and then called your character in Iracing exactly the same as stated on the credit card you buy the game.

Such small details helps tremendously on things.

That's it....

In that post he made, he says that people pay 150 Dollars (Yes, 1 five zero Dollars), to join Eve............

He goes on about how Eve is basically a cesspool of indifferent people and pigs, who do what they want without consequence.

Eve was obviously not a game for this very kind of special person.

I'm sure someone held his head underwater a bit too long when he was a child.

In the actual post, he said 150 kr. which is about 20 euro. Still wrong, but not nearly as much. And not everyone pays out of their own wallet at all, I don't, probably never will.

I can't argue with that.

CCP - Building ant hills and magnifying glasses for fat kids

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.
