Ok things are pretty good.. but the skiff is a touch over tanked [only a touch] - you should either nerf it's tank a little, it's yield a little, or up the mackinaw's ore hold even more.

as of right now skiff and mack mine the same and the diff is between capacity and tank.

cargo size:
this is an issue - each barge should be able to hold 3 sets of crystals+1 spare for each set - tech II crystals at 50m3

skiff has 350m3 - or 7 crystals. that is good for the skiff 6 crystals = 3 sets + spares
mackinaw also has 350m3 - or 7 crystals. This is insufficient - it should have at least 450m3 of cargo bay (500m3 to have the extra 1 crystal like the skiff)
hulk has - 500m3 - or 10 crystals. This is insufficient - it should have at least 600m3 to have a full set

instead of playing with cargo hold size alone perhaps you should instead implement reduce Tech I and Tech II crystal sizes to be the same size as large laser crystals

Tedium and difficulty are not the same thing, if you don't realize this then STFU about game design.

size of the crystals is fine, the split between cargo and ore bay is just poor.
move space from the ore bays to the regular cargo hold, anything above about ~5.6k (i get theoretical max yield to be 5603 m3/cycle) in the hulk is a waste and the skiff has oodles of space to play with, and the mackinaw has more space than enough space to play with as well.

also, skiff drone bay. 15m3... needs 25-50m3 at least.

aside from that mining barges will be more than fine after the change.

I never understood why crystals where so large to begin with.

I think the answer to this is just cut them down and make them all the same size.

The question is how many crystals is a reasonable amount to hold.

Enough for 24 hours of straight mining is over the top so the question is how many

So for fun;
Crystal size = number in cargo hold
05 = 100
10 = 50
15 = 33
20 = 25

Which one do you want.

I think that is the whole point of tech II mining lasers. Tech II variants always have higher fitting requirements and are more specialized. This is the trade off for using them. If you don't like not being able to have all your crystals with you. Use the tech 1 mining lasers or the tech 1 crystals as those take up less space. When you using the tech II versions you have to make a some choices about what specifically you want to mine. I believe this is by design, and is how most of EVE operates. You have to make trade offs. There almost never is a all in one solution for everything.

Why do I have this sig? I don't smoke.

Although this is true with the implementation of ore holds it throws that out the door.
Before it was a trade off , crystals versus ore in cargo holds.

You still get the trade off of T1 crystals last A LOT longer then a T2 crystal, it is just sizes now have a bigger impact.
They really should be standardized and made all the same size.
