How do I find out who posted a buy order?

I found a margin trading scam up and was wondering if there's a way I can find out whose buy order it is? I want to make sure their wallet is fat enough for the order to go through. Pirate

You can not find out from who a buy order is unless you selll to it AND even if you did how do you know their wallet will have enough isk to cover the cost only by his name , alts can hazzz isk you know.

If you think it's a margin trade scam, and this is SO OBVIOUS when it is, then why even bother? What you COULD do is try to find the exact items he is selling and place them on the market for just a tad less.

We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.

The trick I was going to pull was to send him the money immediately before making the purchase and subsequent sale. If I knew the poster of the buy order, I could ensure it goes through. But it doesn't seem I'll ever be able to find out since the minimum amount on the order is the whole thing.

Really? Soooooo. If I were to set up a Margin Trading scam just for you. You'd put a lot of isk into my pocket to .... take advantage of ... me? By putting plenty of isk in my wallet?

I am the person in question who put the buy order up. You can send the isk to me, I promise I won't touch it.

Actually, it may work.
Those orders are often overpriced by a pretty fat margin, even up to 10x or 100x. You need just 4x to be even after sending him 76% of the money needed for the order.
There's no way to know who set it up, though.

More importantly you don't know how much they have left in escrow for that order.

Basically, if you could find out who it may be possible to net a little profit but chances are the scammers are still smarter than you.

you can rest assured, their wallets are not fat enough, as the scam is no longer a scam if you can fill that order and they know it to.

So you will give the scammer money, then sell the items back to them thus getting your money back and disposing of the items you likely bought from their alt in the first place, plus getting a hefty profit from... yourself.

Good luck with that.

Obviously you haven't understood it Big smile

Chances are high, that the lowest SELL order is from the scammer himself. So you could buy a single item from him.
But I won't put my money on that: the sell order could have gotten 0.1 ISKed or the scammer uses an alt for selling ...

Otherwise nice idea.

Good luck with that.

I'll give concrete example: There is one scammer who likes to make buy orders for Station Factory at 900 mil ISK in dodixie when scamming.

1) You see 900 mil ISK buy order for Station Factory. That buy order must have at least 23% in escrow, i.e. 207 mil ISK.
2) You buy Station Factory for 50 mil ISK at Jita.
3) You move Station Factory to Dodixie where that 900 mil ISK buy order is.
4) You give scammer 900-207 = 693 mil ISK so he has enough to cover his buy order.
5) You sell Station Factory to scammer at 900 mil ISK.
6) You make 900 - 693 - 50 = 157 mil ISK profit

Hardest part is "4" since you need to know which character has made that buy order. If you don't know that, you cant use this method. (Also for Station Factory you would need freighter to move it, but same method works for smaller items also. Not all scammers use 100,000 m3 items in their scams.)

"4" is also the reason that you would be crying tears all over the place if it was possible to find out who had the buy order up. Because worst case scenario in the above is that I walk away with 693M profit. Best case you buy the Station Factory from my alt/corp at the same station for 500M and I walk off with a little under 1.2b of your Isk.

Don't listen to him, it's my order, send me the ISK.

I am thoroughly trustworthy, as you can tell by my corp name.
