Is there something I'm missing about T2 LMLs?

To preface this, I can't actually use T2 light missile launchers and I'm asking this to people who can to figure out if I should train them.

So, whenever I' playing around in pyfa or eft with frigate launcher setups, I find myself profoundly confused as to how T2 missiles work. From what I figured, fury missiles have more damage, a larger explosion radius, longer flight time and a small signature radius bonus. To me, that says flat out more range and more damage over a larger area. Precision missiles have less damage, less explosion radius, unchanged velocity, shorter flight time and a speed penalty. Again, to me, that says less damage over a smaller area and less range. If there was a speed difference, I could see the advantage precision would have. Right now, the only advantage I can see is a tiny increase in explosion velocity. I fail to see why one would ever pick precision over fury. And I'm also surprised that a T1 setup with arbalest launchers and faction missiles gets me more range than precision and more dps than both T2 missiles.

My question in short is: What is the advantage precision missiles have over fury missiles?

A bigger explosion radius basically means that you don't hit small things very well - thus Fury missiles never work well against fast moving or small things. Fortunately, that's what Precision missiles are for. Now the question is whether or not Precision is better than faction, which they aren't (IIRC).

I'm an idiot, don't mind me.

Thanks, that makes sense. Guess I'll stick to named with faction then.

When looking at this sort of thing you wind up with discussions revolving around cost, use-case, and ease of production / acquisition on market. Re: T1, T2, best named sub t2 meta, & faction ammo.

The smaller explosion radius of precision translates into more of the damage the missile can deal actually being applied to the target. Particularly if the target is very small, fast and possibly off-type in terms of ideal damage being dealt vs. the target's resists.

Note: there's a longer answer involving :math:, target signature vs explosion radius. Fury may seem to deal more but if target sig is tiny, not all of it may apply - making precision much more ideal than say, Fury or t1.

Well, I'm making fits for ratting right now so hitting small targets isn't that much of a concern.
