Solo PVP – Caldari Frigate?

I know that I see a lot of people saying that T1 frigate PVP is best fought in a Rifter… What would be my option if I wanted to use a Caldari frigate? Are missiles/rockets as good as hybrids? I’m open to using either rockets or hybrid weapons.

I'm not really looking for a fit, just a direction on which Caldari small boat to use...

Cheap: Merlin
Best: Hookbill - Arguably the best faction (both empire and pirate) frigate in game.

You can use a Merlin very effective.

just to toss it out there, kestrel will be recieving a buff soon as well. Also, griffen is an excellent solo pew boat (though the tactics are non-standards xD)

That used to be the case before CCP started balancing frigates (although the Merlin was always a good contender, just needed more SP).

Now, I'm a huge fan of the Merlin. CCP really buffed it nicely.

A proper fit Griffin will beat any T1 frig almost every time, but the fight loses its excitement when the other guy can't even lock you up.
