I see EVE as submarine warfare.

Mr Epeen Cool

This is the best explanation of warfare in EVE. It's not fixed horizontal surface warfare, nor is it air warfare either. You can effectively fight a battle in EVE with your overview and sensor scans alone, without ever seeing your ship.

In Japanese (I believe as well in other historical seafaring nations) the convention is to associate spaceships with boats. For example the term shizumu (to sink) is often used for destroying ships in SF.

That's hardly a Japanese thing, and has been a staple of Science Fiction since at least the 30s.

Ships. They drift about somewhat and they don't drop like a rock if the engines are off. Plus I have converted the ship maintenance bay on my Thanny into a recreational area with swimming pool, shuffle board lanes, and a no-host bar.

Aircraft don't drop like rocks when the engines are cut.

Hell, even helicopters can auto-rotate.

You've clearly never been in a helicopter when it auto-rotates - when you're sat in the troop compartment, with a very limited view of the world outside, I can assure you that to all intents and purposes it drops like a stone (I had to go through it three times in a Wessex while training for tours in NI years ago)
