hit effects - When will we see it ?

Just a minor question. On fanfest 2012 were new Hit effects shown .. like shield hits or armor / structure hits when we can expect a "prototype" on singularity server ?

Not for a while, it was part of the DX11 presentation with the Tesselation effect, so it will probably be Next summer at the earliest.

no DX11 is the geometry. This is a V3 project. As soon as all ships are V3'd the DX9 clinet will support the hit effects.

DX 11 is to generate 50 million polys with subdivisions, like in zbrush.

I've been wondering about these effects as well. My guess is that we'll start seeing something once the V3 project is complete. There's still a lot of work to do in this area, as far as I know.

With the latest patch all subcapitals are V3'd so they could start to add shield, armor, structure hit effects ... just my oppinion.

It would be great addition to the graphics to actually see the hits coming to your shield, armor or structure :D.

That was a mock-up, not anywhere near an actual working state.

So, basically, probably not for a very long time.

There are still NPC faction ships to go through and whatnot. Hopefully we'll see something in the winter expansion.

Not 100% true. They had a live workign demo of the last part of the effect, with the fire and the exposed hull. And the little escape pods, that part is working and looks great. all texture tricks.

Is there video footage of this? I remember seeing the slide with the escape pods and thought it looked amazing. I really hope the shield, armor, and structure effects with the escape pods make it into the game without a hitch.

I'll have to see if I can find it, its not in ccp presents . Maybe the art panel? Also now I'm questioning if the pods were shown off or just the hull, but it was real time, they could spin the camera, zoom in and out on the hull effect. Looked really slick

yes there was a video and i too want to know when the heck we'll see it the shield and armor and hull impacts were one of the most impressive things i saw this year, and yes there were a bunch of small escape capsules of the crew jetisoning and i think there was even talk of people getting sucked into space if you look close enough though dont know if that was sarcasm or not lol......

but honestly, GIVE US SOME SEXY EFFECTS PREASE, or atleast a timeline

This will probably be happening after capitals and stations get V3'd given the overwhelming community support for it.

Of course, it would make the game unplayable for those strange people who can find $100/mo for their eve accounts but can't afford $50 for a graphics card upgrade.

Kinda makes sense... with the captains quaters and upcoming DUST... and walk on stations... it's only a matter of time when the whole capsule concept will be ditched in favour of "us" beeing real captains... with bridges and crews and all.

i dont think that the PODs will be changed to captians and brigdes .. it would change the whole game mechs... but what i would realy like to see are those hit effects .. with sound's of course ...

Well, not really... the PODs would just become escape pods... if anything, it would be a major lore change... but CCP wouldn't be the first company to retcon their story. Truth is: PODs have been a convenient mechanic once, but one that could be obsolete pretty soon.
