I agree. The hulk is only for group operation. It should be self suffiecant at nothing.

The few smarter ones will switch to the tankier skiff or machinaw.

All is good, you cant expect most miners to give up some yield to survive, that would be a stupid idea, wouldn't it?

it's more the point that it can only fit 1 full cycle, which leaves room left over in the ore bay, that would be more appreciated in the remaining regular bay for crystal storage. there's a legitimate issue with the way the hulk's cargo capacity has been split.

Who gives a damn if it has more space then it needs? It's a fleet ship, you put it in the orca as soon as its harvested anyways.

the cargo space itself isn't the issue; read what i wrote.
the way it has been split 7500/500 is the issue. 500 is not sufficient to carry a decent compliment of crystals. if we moved some of the ore bay space back to regular cargo to hold more crystals we'd lose nothing from the ore bay as any thing past one full cycle is "wasted space" that could be (but currently can't be) used for storing crystals. also crystals are a bigger issue for the hulk since it has more strips to load crystals in to hence it needs more space to store them.

The crystals can go in the Orca's corp hangar.

and if you don't have the correct permissions you can't remove things from the orca's corp hangar unless you get the pilot to jetison it, which is just an awkward way of doing things. granted it is a solution, just an awkward one. i don't see what the issue is with splitting up the hulk's cargo space in a less ******** way, to be honest.

They can't. Most mining operations involve multiple corps and Orca hangars have to be configured for "fleet usage" and then their contents cannot be seen or taken by non corp mates.

It's a shame that CCP has to nerf suicide ganking for the nth time until hisec is totally safe and all PvP is consensual, while having the best income sources in the game.

Yeah I heard ice mining yields trillions per hour, people quit Incursions just to do that!

Ice mining is about as profitable as incursions these days.

Mining is only as profitable as the economy allows. If everyone is too scared to mine in high sec the prices stay high and the profitability stays higher. If we suddenly get more people mining or the existing ones can yield more then the prices will drop due to the extra supply.

That said can we please get a mining capital or a buff to the hulk's yield or something?

Maybe I'm jumping the gun here though. If all goes well the changes to the barges will cause a resurgence in mining as newbs can actually fly a procurer and have a decent yield, they'll be able to get into a covetor as soon as they can afford one instead of having to wait for barge 5. The tanky and cargo oriented ships could cause a resurgence in mining interest. This can lead to people coming into mining from both ends, older and newer players, and we my finally see prices return to some semblance of pre-drone poo nerf prices.

This might have been the perfect economic and industrial change after all, when combining the barge changes with the drone poo nerf...

People could nullify 90% of high sec miner ganks right now by mining in battleships and it hasn't happened so it's highly unlikely. I don't say this to sound smug or as some kind of 'lol miners' but it just doesn't strike me as likely unless CCP does something extremely dramatic which goes directly against the games key philosophies.

Battleship mining is a horrible prospect for anyone who doesn't have a dedicated hauler or orca or is AFK. Since many find mining to boring to pay attention to it's no wonder this doesn't make a viable choice.

Seemed to work just fine for many years before the barges came out.

And still would if they hadn't, but it's been quite a while since then. Things change.

What they should have done is allow exhumers to fit better tanks at the expense of yield rather than giving them hilarious tanking ability without the need to fit a single hardener.

yes, hulkageddon is a thing of the past

feel free to afk mine in your max-yield fit hulk in 0.5 space, only going back to your computer to move ore to your orca

you are now untouchable

lolz - I love the Goons.

To answer the OP: Hulkageddon lives. The Greifer-ganker will still grief-gank. Those in it for profit will be dscouraged.

In my main's corp, we simply made our ships far less desireable targets by making max tank/min yield builds. Even up to only T2 in the tank mods and T1 strips (less potential profit from the kill). We have Orca support (shield harmonizer) and the fleet spider tanks. We watch local for any reds.

Can we still be ganked now/after changes? Sure!!! But these chages will make it much more easy to field excellent tankage. This should make us some of the least desireable targets in space. I guarantee you that many will continue to deploy max yield/paper tank Hulks ripe for harvesting by gankers.

Hulkageddon lives.

No with ice < 1k pu it nets about 20M-ish per hour, which is somewhat less than what you get with incursions. Unless you do Incursions in a Drake maybe.

Yes, having to spam directional scan, double checking everyone entering in local or logging in to see if they are known gankers, staying aligned or circling around stuff...

It's like missioning in low sec, with the difference that in low sec it takes more than 2 x 5M ships to finish you off.

You should know, you are part of those who created such situation.

Before you, the same ice yielded 4.5M per hour. The delta is the risk factor.

You can't blame goods cost enough to provide 20M per hour when you are the one killing miners enough so that price quadruples.

no.. if anything will end hulkageddon it's the year round application of hulkageddon like pay outs for never ending ganking. it's boring for everyone.. hulkageddon at it's best used to be exciting.. now it's just passe.
