If you are really offended your skin is way to thin and you need to HTFU. There are plenty things in this world to get upset and offended over, children starving to death, genocide, incompetent politicians, etc. Not on that list is a joke on the internet.

today DrSmegma is going to take a few minutes of his time to educate you about the proper use of national stereotypes and generalizations.

When we say, "The Russians drink a lot of vodka", then we actually mean The Russians. That doesn't mean that every single Russian has to drink a lot of vodka, or even any vodka at all. It just means that the average of all Russians, if you put them together to one person, would drink more vodka than a person that's the average of all French.

The single case has nothing to do with it. That doesn't make the stereotype wrong, because the stereotype describes the average Russian and not each individual case to begin with.

Now to something else: When we say "China is communist", we don't mean that every single Chinese is a communist. States have a life of their own. States can be communist even when parts of their population don't actively support that economy style. It is still a hard fact that the sum of all Chinese end up creating a communist state.

The USoA for example have been aggressive manipulative warmongers since their creation several hundreds years ago. Even though all the people who created the United States or those who led them through their first few centuries are long dead, the United States are still an artificial person with a life of its own whose core behaviour hasn't changed at all.

I think you can see where this is heading. Also, more often than not, people just claim that the stereotype doesn't describe them because they have a plank in their eye. It's hard to reflect oneself and even harder to accept negative facts about oneself.
