Hurricane and Tempest

The Hurricane is a great Battlecruiser, capable of doing Lv3 missions with ease. Looking at a Tempest, they get the same type of bonuses and proportionally the same layout (6 Turrets, more Lows than Mid by one or two slots). So... how does the Tempest fare in PvE?

Does it do Lv4's as elegantly as a Hurricane does Lv3's?

Space. It seems to go on and on forever. But then you get to the end and a gorilla starts throwing barrels at you.

No, it doesn't. Level 4 missions are considerably harder (depending on which ones, of course) than level 3s, and take longer to run. The Tempest does pretty good, but you would do better using a Maelstrom because you have more DPS output and a tanking bonus to boot.

That's a shame. Such an iconic ship and all.

It's iconic for its role in PVP, not PVE. Eve changes and so do the icons.

I was referring to how it pretty much sums up the Minmatar design philosophy.

While not the best, I did field a Tempest (for the sake of flying one) in Lv4's and it performed fairly well. My Vargur did better, of course, but the Tempest was still workable.

I'm still trying to fit one together.

Any chance you could be so gracious as to share you fitting?

Something I just made in 1 Minute, so probably much room for improvement.

Problem of the Tempest is pretty much that the Maelstrom is just better at PvE. You don't need the speed/agility advantage and you don't really have the cpu for the free highslots (and even if you did, unsupported torps/cruise missiles do no damage). The Fleet Tempest has pretty much the same problems (but a gyro more).

Still, 870 gundps, 980 dps tank for Angels is not that bad. Range is somewhat limited (4+46km), but doable - Just don't fly against guristas that much.

Sadly i hear it dose better in galente space than in minnie, throw in some phazed plazma and blap you some serpi's.

I wanted to paint my space ship red, but I couldn't find enough goats.

The Tempest is best understood as a proper battlecruiser. Not the ganking tool that Tier 3 BCs* are, but a proper ship which is well equipped to deal with most sub-BS things and is more mobile (although flimsier) then other BS. In that role, it is unique among battleships, and is just fine the way it is.

However, PVE (that is, L4s) is about tank and gank, and Maelstrom does that better. The versatility, mobility and dual heavy neuts of the Tempest aren't assets useful in PVE.

*A case of people tragically missing the point. The argument was "oh but battlecruisers were historically ships with battleship guns and cruiser-like armour", but failing to note that the role of the battlecruiser is more similar to the actual role of the Tier 2 BCs in EVE, and the idea was, roughly, outgun what you can't outrun and outrun what you can't outgun; which made them useful for a variety of roles, eg. shipping raiders, etc (to direct combat, at times). The Tempest fits that description much better then Tier 3 BCs.

Dunno, it eats Angels pretty easily with its Shield-tank Explosive resistance and Explosive-dealing Auto-Cannons.

It's been a while, but I believe it was something similar to this:

[Tempest, Kaboom]
Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer
Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer
Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer
Republic Fleet Tracking Enhancer
Republic Fleet Tracking Enhancer
True Sansha Capacitor Power Relay

Pith X-Type Large Shield Booster
Dread Guristas Shield Boost Amplifier
Dread Guristas Adaptive Invulnerability Field
Dread Guristas EM Ward Field
Ammatar Navy Cap Recharger

800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L
800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L
800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L
800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L
800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L
800mm Repeating Artillery II, Hail L
Drone Link Augmentor I
Auto Targeting System II

Large Capacitor Control Circuit I
Large Projectile Collision Accelerator I
Large Projectile Locus Coordinator I

And when I was arty support for group missions it was a similar build with 1400mm for bombing things to death.

But then I moved on to a Vargur. And then a Mach. >_> Tempest was just for the sake of having it.

Hah, of course. As I said, such an iconic Minmatar Battleship, is it not? Smile
