What motivations for going to Jita?

I'm thinking of doing some station trading in Jita, so was hoping to get an idea of the market. I'm wondering specifically what motivates people to go to Jita. Some initial rough observations:

-I don't see that sell prices are any better than at sub-hubs such as Rens or Dodixie. If selling, it seems that just selling at the local sub-hub would do as well.
-If buying, yuy prices in Jita seem more competitive than at the sub-hubs.
-Rarer items such as faction ammo seem more available in Jita than elsewhere.
-Expensive items, such as top-end ships, probably sell faster in Jita than elsewhere. But probably at a lower price than at a sub-hub.

So from this, it seems that the advantage of shopping in Jita would be in buying things cheap, buying rarer items, or quickly selling expensive items. For just routine selling, I don't see much advantage. Comments/corrections?

All depends on /what/ you're buying.

take a look at component and datacore prices, for example.

If you're buying, going to Jita is generally cheaper and offer maximum choice. Especially if you're buying a complicated shopping list eg a Ship AND its fittings. You may find individual items cheaper elsewhere, but then you have to fly 8 jumps to get the MWD, 10 jumps somewhere else to get the guns and then another 3 jumps to get the Armor Plate, and then still need to go to Jita to get the DC, rigs and ammo. Eventually that becomes too much a bind and it's just easier to go to Jita and buy it all there and maybe pay a bit extra on a few items.

If you're a serious seller the key factor is turnover. You might be able to sell 1 item of a particular product for a 3M profit every day in an obscure location, but sell 10 items in Jita per day each for 2M profit. A total profit of 20M. If you can satisfy the Jita demand why go to the obscure location. Sure you could do both, but eventually you will be limited by the number of available sell orders and again the time and effort of travelling to the obscure location.

Other factors to consider in going to Jita.....

1) It's kinda like Las Vegas, a draw

2) If you want to see a bunch of ships, huge traffic jam, a few pirates.....

3) The occasional battles (as a spectator of course)

4) And to test your video card. If you get lag, tweek ur settings or get a new one.

5) The badly damaged monument from last year's players rage Shocked

6) And to get a good deal on beach front property on the Moon!

tbh for me it is the closest trade hub (although I am pretty much between jita and amarr) usually I find that the prices are usually just a bit better in jita, and sometimes amarr runs out of things. if I was in gallente or minmatar space I'd just stop at one of the local trade hubs, unless of course they didn't have what I wanted, and in that case I'd say just have a jita alt and learn to use courier contracts.

The station trading in Jita is like trying to cross a freeway while naked on stilts wearing a blindfold fyi Blink

The motivations for going to Jita is profits. If you want to make big money, you need to go where the big money is.

If done right the profits can be astronomical (see post #88 and #89 for tl;dr.)

as a station trader, i hate jita-u have to constantly be watching your orders and also its way too easy for your profit to go from 10mil+ to a negative.

i prefer the slower hubs like amarr/dodixie. i like to chill and make millions

and as others have said-jita has anything...you would ever...want?

From a non-trader perspective, Jita is simply a one-stop shop.

EVE is too small to have multiple competing hubs. Instead, there is Jita, and then there are a few convenience stores that get their stock from Jita.

People who need **** quickly will either have alliance seeding done in their region or they will deal with the slightly increased prices of Amarr, Rens etc.

The way I see it, most everything passes through Jita at some point so the station traders are wisest to slip into the system there. If you don't want to supply the convenience stores and just want to turn a profit, you don't ever have to undock from Jita.

I can't tell you the history of Jita's rise but because it doesn't have(or need) a competitor, it won't fall. Unless perhaps a very powerful group of people arbitrarily decide to upset the system ^^

If your just shopping. Jita is wall mart. Alot of sketchy people trying to talk to you. But everything you need is there.

I prefer jita as a trade hub as you will get action on your buy sell orders faster. Which is what I want. It doesnt take alot of work to update your buy sell orders as long as you dont have like 75, 75 something like that.

Different trade hubs serve different styles of trading, and levels of involvement.

Volume. If you are making a LOT of X (regardless of what X is) you are more likely to have it sold/bought quickly in Jita if the price is right.

Depending on the product and how common it is and how small your operation is, a small sub-hub might have enough volume to handle your market orders. But if you are trying to unload something like a rare moon mineral or something obscure in large quantities, it is worth the trip to Jita.

In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse.

I have been trading there for past 2 days.

Use to region buy in another hub and then haul to Jita. It was slow, but good profit.

Good profit in Jita, but my sell / buy orders last max 5 min before being outbid.
Summer vacation coming soon, so will stay there and just hang on comp whole day.

Just be very, VERY carefull of what you buy there. Prices rise and fall hour in and out. You might get your wallet burned if not careful.
