The end of Hulkageddon?

The details of the new mining barges were just posted in the Science and Industry forums.

So is this the end of Hulkageddon?

Hulks are still paper. And people will still fit pure yield fits. Bet they will even rig that poor 500m3 main cargo for just a wee bit more space. Hulks will still die, often. The others... maybe not so much.

the new mining barge specifics are nothing that won't be beaten by bringing more firepower along, and as long as some miners continue to fit for maximum yield and minimum tank they will continue to go pop regardless of any buffs from CCP.

CCP can't fix stupidity

NB I own a hulk, I rarely use it but it has a tank, it has always had a tank even though it sacrifices some yield.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

But with the Skiff and just a bit less yeild you can have 100,000 plus EHPs. The Skiff is now a viable alternate choice in my opinion. Plus the new ore hold sizes, the AFker types will probobly much prefer the Skiff to the Hulk anyway.

And the Makinaws massive Ore Hold? I think you will be seeing a lot of them running around. And since you don't need expanded cargo holds or cargo optimizing rigs anymore they will be more room for a tank fit.

they won't bring more firepower unless bounties on exhumers goes up.

People could nullify 90% of high sec miner ganks right now by mining in battleships and it hasn't happened so it's highly unlikely. I don't say this to sound smug or as some kind of 'lol miners' but it just doesn't strike me as likely unless CCP does something extremely dramatic which goes directly against the games key philosophies.

You give min/maxers too much credit. Hulks give max yield. That is their only option.
Sure many will change ships, but you wont see hulks vanish.

People have always ganked exhumers regardless of if there's a bounty payable or not, some people just get off on making other peoples internet space pixels go boom!.

Hulkageddon used to be a once a year thing, exhumers still died outside of the hulkageddon dates, hell I've exploded miners with corpmates on another character in the past just to remove the competition for roids.

See mining can be PVP (in an assploding kind of way) Lol

hulks will be replaced by mackinaws for single account owners.

people with multiple accounts and an orca will stick with hulks.

and only paranoid people will mine in skiffs.

AFK money-making machines need some downsides. Unfortunately, now we'll have fleets of supertanked Hulks mining 23/7 and individual (newbie) mining profits will go into the toilet. This is a huge buff for botters and afk "players."

feel free to afk mine in your max-yield fit hulk in 0.5 space, only going back to your computer to move ore to your orca

you are now untouchable

If CCP did anything they should buff the ability to let us make life miserable for the botters. The ice belts in Kamio are loaded with them. I have gone and logged countless hours looking for bots - just so I can relay that info to people I know that gank them. CCP claims to be putting a stop to them...but I am not seeing it. Bot's are at an all time high.

There is only so much you can do to stop a BC from killing a hulk in 10 seconds, but if you manage that all that will change is the next time you see that ganker warp in he will have a friend with him.

The Hulk will not change much so ganking it can still be profitable even without hulkaggeddon.

But the rest of the mining barges cost to gank vs reward will get so lopsided only a fool will still gank those.

When it comes to mining, a buff is a stealth nerf and a nerf is a stealth buff.

A properly programmed bot will NEVER be popped by suicide gankers. Bots never get distracted. They never stop checking local, they never forget to hit the dscan button, they never forget who has attacked them before and they never make mistakes. And now thanks to Hulkageddon, high sec ores are now worth more than any of the other ores, save for Arkanor and Mercoxit.

The only thing truly keeping the tide of bots at bay is CCP Sreegs and his team.

Battleship mining is a horrible prospect for anyone who doesn't have a dedicated hauler or orca or is AFK. Since many find mining to boring to pay attention to it's no wonder this doesn't make a viable choice.
