Do you consider your internet spaceship a plane, or a ship?

Das Boot.

But really, if you read books about naval combat and air combat, you'll see elements of both in an EVE fleet.
The naval combat part:
- The fleet is composed of ships of different sizes and capabilities. BSes, cruisers, destroyers, frigs, etc. Each has definite advantages and disadvantages and a definite role. And it's facing another fleet also composed of varying types. You don't really have that in air combat.
- Calling primary target. Happens in sea combat but not in air combat.
-Being able to park and sit immoble (while d-scanning in a safe spot or whatever).

The air combat part:
- Moving in three dimensions, sometimes at high speed. Especially frigs-- behave more like aircraft than ships IMO.
- Each craft is controlled by an individual, not a crew of multiple people.
- The sudden encounters at relatively close ranges.
- The twitch/reflexes factor of having to very quickly target, pick range, activate mods, warp out, etc.

So I kind of imagine it as fleets of very fast submarines, composed of all different types of boats.

I totally agree that bigger ships should have a way more slots. Its just funny how its done; 1 battleship has huge problems with fighting 2 or 3 little frigates even frigate pilots are unskilled. This what kills the game realism and sense of size.
Another annoying thing is that for example you cannot fitt probe launcher on BC or BS, because if you do youll losse your ability to for example cloak , fleet boost or hit hard when in the same game 100 times smaller ships can fitt same module LOL

Make the game more realistic please CCP and Im sure youll have definitelly more subscribers.

Donkeys on ketamine

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

EVE is most certainly a more naval aspect... that happens to operate in submarine physics. But we really have no ships of the line as a BB cannot shield the Blackbird EWAR cruisersby being in the firing path.

EVE is really a cross between nuclear submarines and WW1 sea tactics and technology. For example in EVE we have nothing like the AEGIS system, we have no point defense either. Technically a PD system could stop anything fired in EVE but lasers.

EVE is like swimming on a beach in shark infested waters,  There is however a catch...  The EVE Beach you also have to wonder which fellow swimmer will try and eat you before the sharks.

Glad I'm not the only one who calls them boats. Although if I had a Titan I might consider calling it a ship.

Just saying.

I disagree and I'll refer you to the Battle of Jutland specifically the night actions near then end of it when the German Destroyers were used to screen the withdrawal of the German Battleship fleet as case in point. This battle also shows why Battlecruisers typically were retired as a class after WWI, the British of course didn't fully heed the lessons of Jutland until the Bismarck sunk the Hood in WWII.

Besides you can kill Frigates with Battleships just not up close. Cool

Submarines are generally referred to as Boats, not Ships.

Ships, boats, subs and planes. Sea naval vessels in space and support aircraft.
Examples:
Scorpion = Ship
Drake = Boat
Manticore = Sub
Harpy = Plane

A vessel that travels the stellar medium.

Ships imply a boat-like object, which generally float. I doubt rifters float. Likewise, planes require aerodynamics to stay aloft. Without that, my rifter will plummet out of the sky, and as mentioned before, will likely not float. Unless it comes to rest on land. Then it doesn't matter what I call it, cause I'll be a smear on the inside of my pod.

I personally like to ships (I'm a fan of Naval Warfare). Even in a pure design standpoint, almost every ship ever designed had point defense to counter swarms, aircraft, etc. The fact that in th 32nd century capitals that are impotent against frigs is a naval-articets uber-blunder.

But the question is.... would it make for fun gameplay if bigger always outclassed smaller? Probably not, which is why I'm ok with the way things are now.

*COUGH* The Bismark was taken out by obsolete Torpedo planes.

*Cough* Russo-Japanese war and Torpedo boats.

Wikipedia wrote:
But at the same time, the new weight of armour slowed them, and the huge guns needed to penetrate that armour fired at very slow rates. This allowed for the possibility of a small and fast ship that could attack the battleships, at a much lower cost. The introduction of the torpedo provided a weapon that could cripple, or sink, any battleship.

*COUGH* The Entire reason for the Carrier Battle Group formation with smaller boats serving to protect the Carrier, who's relatively defenseless against a number of threats from smaller craft.

*COUGH* The USS Cole.

Point Defenses are about as useful as EVE's Drones for a BS. They help, but they're not enough.
