Hi C&P,

the lack of air-tight and secure ransoming mechanics prompted us to think of a way that allows customers to pay pirates without fear of losing their ship or pod along with their ISK.

For this purpose, the Tuskers are offering a Third Party Ransom Service as of today in the ingame channel 'RANSOM SERVICE'.

Short version: we hold on to the ransom payment until the customer is safe; then we forward the money to the pirates.

For detailed information, please have a look at this thread on our forums.
Edit: Sigh... EVE forums break the link. For manual copy&paste: http://www.the-tuskers.info/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=3768

An excerpt from the thread's FAQ:
Quote:
Q: Why can I trust Tuskers with this service?
A: Our code does not allow any Tusker to break his word. Doing so warrants public ejection, unless he does everything in his might to set things right to the full satisfaction of all damaged parties.
Feel free to ask neutral parties to vouch for us, who know how we've been operating for the past 4 years (for example in "The Tuskers Public Channel" in-game).

Further questions are appreciated.

Regards,
Jaxley

Actually seems like a good idea. Will be keeping an eye on this for use in the future.

I vouch for the Tuskers legitimacy and will be interested to see how this service works out.

Good idea, but all the good Pirate corps honour there word anyways, I know Neg 10 do and The Tuskers, good idea for the lesser known pirate corps and newer pirate corps to get a rep up for being trustworthy

I agree for the most part, but if a pirate corporation moves to a new region, most of their new "neighbours" won't be aware of them, that they honour ransoms etc, at least for the first few months.

With how many bloggers and podcasters we have in-house, as well as how far our members roam & are active compared to the average pirate corporation (~50j roams are pretty usual), we have more people who are aware of us all around New Eden - we're often convoed whilst roaming or greeted (gracefully or otherwise P) for this to benefit pirate corporations of all shapes & sizes.

Thanks for the comments so far people!

A long time ago, many pirate corps actualy were "honorable". And the ones that weren't got chased out by everyone else.

But then people got smart and stopped getting caught as much and the pirates began running out of targets and got desparate. Most closed up shop and the rest had to resort to "collect ransom and shoot anyway" or "just kill it".

Tuskers have always kept their word and I wouldn't say that we got chased out just yet by anyone. Though we don't claim to be "honorable", as we typically don't mind jumping on defenseless ships and are no strangers to harassing local highsec miners; the term is too blurry to make that claim in our case.
But it's true that we've got less people who mainly or exclusively depend on PvP to generate income these days.

Maybe it's far fetched, but I wouldn't mind if people venturing into lowsec knew about our service and had an option to engage in fair and secure ransom negotiations if they got caught. We'll see.

It is an interesting Idea but I am slightly concerned for the amount of time and complication this would add to a ransom. Lets face it some of the people that pay ransoms aren't the sharpest tools in the shed, and sometimes you are working under some sort of pressure with regards to how long you can spend ransoming someone.

I'd like to hear some of the experiences others have had using this service before I give it a try to be honest.

Game was also alot smaller, I biomassed quite a few characters early on as I kept getting found all across EVE. Had to behave, or go under the radar. P
