Eve Movie

The Eve Online Back story is really amazing, and I strongly support the idea of making a film based on it. So i ask you some questions that has been bugging me about the idea: what would the title be? How can such a complex introduction be set up in an engaging way, unlike the old intro video? How would you portray key events like the dark ages, the gate closing, the Minmatar uprising and the Gallente-Caldari war? How would you portray members of the different races? Would they have unique accents, clothing, etc? And, since the storyline doesn't have a real resolution, how would the movie end?

Feel free to make your own questions as well. If you don't want an Eve movie, don't say a word. i want an Eve Movie idea threadnaught!

Out of all of those topics, I'd love to see one of them investigated a little more. The Dark Ages. This is a very spooky time and I wish there was more fiction to explore it. We see references all the time.

In fact my favourite artwork is that of a primitive caldari society armed with shields and spears ready to fight each other at the base of the kaalakiota peaks.

This period of civilization is so dark and mysterious that at times you forget they are still human. Their history is so different to our own. We see examples of world empires and very different cultures.

If there was to be a movie, initially it'd be good to see it revolve around capsuleers and thus involved the players. Then other aspects can be explored.

I agree. a friend of mine made a piece depicting a tribe of minmatar dancing around a campfire, under the crashed hull of a massive Jove ship. This period is where the most interesting ideas about humanity and culture are changed. also, regarding the last statement, i would love a lighthearted, pirates of the carribean like movie focusing on the insanity of capsuleerhood.

Wish I had spare millions down the back of the sofa to do this. So, disregarding the business side of things here's my flight of fancy (more questions than anything tbh);

Although the EVE IP is nowhere near as well known as, say, Pirates of the Caribbean Bruckheimer et al still used the strength of the name to gather people and resources (and most importantly) developed a script with a "traditional" story and characters hewn from such a vague premise. Leads me to think that you'd need a similarly "focussed" script in which the EVE world is simply the background, the flavour; but then what makes that unique amongst other sci-fi? How could you draw me in if I knew nothing about the game? Where is the jeopardy, either epic (why should I care about the world) or personal (why care about the protagonist?)

Now, looking at this from another angle (since people enjoy the chronicles) perhaps you could go down the hard sci-fi portmanteau route? An anthology of shorter pieces glued together by a single overarching theme. In which case, what do you think is the strongest theme or motif present in EVE? I'm talking about films like Malick's Tree of Life or the new Ji-woon/Pil-sung Doomsday Book, at a stretch like Fantasia or even Kubrick's 2001.

Regardless, it seems that it might be a good exercise to state in one sentence exactly what it is that EVE is trying to say about humanity or interpersonal relationships. I.e. Even gods amongst men exploit and are exploited (I'm sure something better can be thought of.)

And finally, for yet another angle; I wonder if there would be interest for a series of episodic story-driven rpg/shooters/classic adventure? They can incorporate the desire for directed story-telling (your movie) whilst utilising the resources of the game studio.

An added thought: In line with the episodic games, new chronicles can be richly interactive and either bought i.e. on steam or more interestingly by using AUR as if your EVE character is experiencing the content. Roll

I would honestly love to see The Empyrean Age made into a series. Have any of you read that? I can just imagine the scenes with Karsoth's Minmatar sex slaves.Twisted It would have to be on a premium channel.

Not sure there is need to base it on the backstory.

Wouldn't it be more interesting to see a movie which is based in the fictional universe of EVE and yet is fictionally made by the people who populate it?

We make films which are fictional, like films with superheros and villans. Wouldn't the residents of new eden do the same?; have their own popular culture?

I feel the answer would be 'yes' and from there, what kind of movies and films would they make? What would the people consider of new eden consider entertainment?

A movie of my adventures in Eve Online would probably double subscriber numbers.

Again, that is.

Absolutely and we know they do. CPD Blue I think is the name of one of them, based off of a caldari corporate police force, which is mentioned in the Naga "show info" description.

I think some of these films are even made cross-culture. For example gallenteans producing films based on caldari characters/people.

I'd probably pay real money to see a biopic of that, but not a movie.

Yes, great concept! Would be quite unique and even distributable through the client for AUR or IC piracy.

Please do! Looking forward to it. Are we allowed any teasers?

That, would be no.

Issuing a teaser that would have elements to it that would no doubt change dramatically would be wrong.

I write in a two steps forward, one step back approach, and then when finished tear it apart and start again - unlike most who probably keep hold of what they wrote on day 1, because they see it as a cherished thing that should not ever change; where I see it as trash that hasn't made it to the recycle bin yet.

I was writing a scene where the protagonist and their side kick are chewing the fat, and although it was a great buddy dialogue scene with quip after quip from each character, I had to re-write it, because it simply slowed the story down and looked like an excuse to 'be funny' for the sake of it.

So I cut the scene down to it's bare minimum, and all of a sudden, it became too frickin' dark and pessimistic, where I wanted to have something open, allowing the reader to project their thoughts onto the characters, instead of dictating the direction of thought process.

What I can tell you is that I did send a few select people the opening scene and they liked it - but that scene has changed now...and I'm not finished re-writing it to better suit other aspects of the story whole.

Overall, it's an cliché action 'heros journey' type of script, and I think it knows what it is, but some of these characters are not talking to me that much, as much as I listen to them. They seem more interested in doing stuff, than saying stuff. Some of the stuff the bad guy is doing is really freaking me out, but from his perspective he seems to see it as 'just another day at the office' type of affair.

He seems almost unstoppable, almost.
