Hello there,

so I've heard alot of talk around the different channels in-game about officer spawns and their items. There is just one problem however, no one really seems to know anything about them. So what I thought was to take my own knowledge in, and with time edit it when/if I get some new information from any of you people out there.
So please feel free to write anything you know about it, and I will update asap.

When I feel like the first version is ready, I'll make a PDF download link available here. Will be through eve-files.

What are officers? - Updated: 25th of July 2012.
Officers are random and rare encounters in 0.0 belts and gates. They are not like normal encounters and usually have tougher companions with them than normal spawns. An example of an officer encounter would be the officer himself/herself and 4 BS. Most of the officers are also known as mission agents, and only very few are left out.
Officers are hunted for the reason that some of the officers drop some extremely valuable modules. These modules are only attainable this way, which is why they are sometimes worth alot of ISK.
There are 4 officers in each of the 5 pirate factions, where some of them have very large differences in ISK outcome.
But be warned, just because you may find an officer doesn't necessarily mean you will get anything valuable. It is all chance based, and you could end up getting just a couple of hundred million out of the encounter.

Where do they spawn? - Updated: 25th of July 2012.
Officers are known to spawn in belts or at jump gates, where their associated pirate faction spawns would occur. This means that if you enter a belt/gate where there are Blood Raider Covenant spawns present, then an officer of the Blood Raider Covenant would be able to spawn in that same system.
Below is shown the pirate faction, the region and the officers found within.

Angel Cartel - Curse, Cache, Detorid, Feythabolis, Great Wildlands, Immensea, Impass, Insmother, Omist, Scalding Pass, Tenerifis, Wicked Creek.
Officers: Gotan Kreiss, Hakim Stormare, Mizuro Cybon, Tobias Kruzhor

Blood Raider Covenant - Delve
Officers: Ahremen Arkah, Draclira Merlonne, Raysere Giant, Tairei Namazoth

Guristas Pirates - Venal
Officers: Estamel Tharchon, Kaikka Peunato, Thon Eney, Vepas Minimala

Sansha's Nation - Stain
Officers: Brokara Ryver, Chelm Soran, Selynne Mardakar, Vizan Ankonin

Serpentis - Fountain
Officers: Brynn Jerdola, Cormack Vaaja, Setele Schellan, Tuvan Orth

What is the spawn rate? - Updated: 25th of July 2012.
Officers are known spawning more often the lower the truesec. And considering that the pirate owned NPC systems are all considered -1.0 in the calculation for spawn rate of officers, the very hope of running into one is actually realistic.

The following numbers are taken from the evewiki, but they forgot to mention what true-sec the numbers are based upon. So take the following numbers as a mere guideance to understanding the rarity of the officers, and not as an overall calculation since these numbers might have been taken from random systems.

You could expect to run into and officer after either:
- Clearing between 20 to 40 faction spawns. Faction spawns occur somewhere between 1 faction spawn per 20 to 50 cleared belt/gate spawns.
- Clearing between 400 to 2000 belt/gate spawns.

Which is why its incomplete, im trying to make this so people can get some easy knowledge about this topic.
Since you say its inaccurate and outdated, then may I ask how you know that it is?

you can actually do missions for them, as they are ingame agents Big smile (not all of them, i think for every faction 1 is not an agent)

Officers are known to spawn mostly (if not only) in NPC controlled 0.0 space with a true-sec of atleast -0.8.

I believe officers can spawn in any belt where their associated faction rat would spawn. There's a higher chance the lower the truesec, but all NPC sov systems are treated as -1.0 for this calculation.

Where and/or how did you obtain these numbers? They look an awful lot like guesses, TBH. What?

Last week we were returning to our temporary home, after hassling .-A-. a wee bit, when one of our fleet members noticed that one set of gate rats were True Sansha. Good on him, I’d just warped on by them and never actually looked at what they were.

Anyway he cleared them and found himself half a billion better off. I don’t recall him mentioning officer named ships in our fleet channel, but he certainly had officer gear in the drop as well as alpha implant and true Sansha gear. That seems to mean that either you can get officer drops from ships not named after officers, or you can get officers spawning amongst gate rats.

Now I check the names on gate rats as I move around doing stuff … and will probably be in a covops frig, jumps from anywhere, when I see such a spawn myself.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

Well you're not entirely off. The volunteers from eve's volunteer program are probally behind them. Which is why i also mentioned before writing it that its not something to take as critical info to remember but a guidance.
But after talking to some people who've been farming belts and actually found officers, it seems that the numbers presents a certain truth.

Substantia Nigra I will try to search this, never heard anything of them being able to spawn at gate's but that is very interresting though.

BrutalButFair thank you will note that down. I am making a list of officer drop locations from different people, will take quite some time... but why not :)

Confirming this. The only Officer I've ever seen was on a gate.

Confirming this. The spawns however of what I know are actually sometimes seen at truesec -0,2 which is quite odd considering the odds for that.
