Tactics and Fleet composition in Alliance X tournament

I've been watching the Tournament closely in a effort to learn something about PvP fleet composition and the tactics used by each type of fleet composition.

One ship type that has not appeared as July 15 battle ending is the bomber. I would appreciate the opinions of FC's and experienced PvP pilots for the absence.

I'm kind of thinking that it is simply the point cost. it is equal to a frigate and an assault ship which seems a poor trade for a ship that is low on hp.

They are not worth the points, but also thanks to the 12 man format and the buff to AFs there are way more things on the average team that will kill them instantly.

On another note, you really should not look at tourney fleet comps as a guide to what works on TQ. The format is just sooo different that what works in one setting does not apply to the other.

Bombers used to see quite a lot of use in the tournament but with the buffs to other frigates they seem to no longer be worth the amount of points that they cost to field.

This. Any team that treats the tournament like any other small gang PvP gets shut down fast.

Don't take too many notes from the tourny. For example those Tengu kite teams that get wrecked so easily, remember there's no staff member with a manic grin and a red button in TQ. It's great fun to watch, and you can pick up some useful stuff, but between the module limitations, the relatively tiny arena, and point guidelines for compositions, it's very much like trying to learn how to fight by watching a boxing match. You might pick up some useful combinations, but in the real world you'll just get cracked up side the head with a bottle while your waiting for the bell to ring.

Meh bombers are typically ineffective in the majority of PVP situations. I would assume they would be even less effective in an "arena" type of pvp like the AT.

Bombers have been used in AT in the past - I think someone (PL maybe?) might have won the whole thing with a damp-bomber team one year. Typically, people save their crazy setups like that for the very end, for the surprise factor.

I only know of their use as Mission farmers and an anti-giant blob weapon in actual combat. They have very limited use, but when a bomber wing works, there can be some pretty spectacular kill board shots.
