How is an orca's tank ability? Also, how good can it be as a droneboat?

By "battle orca" I mean an orca loaded with a tank, drone damage mods, and combat utilitys like smartbombs and cap nuets. I have seen PvP E-WAR support orcas on SISI and they are very potent, but I'm more interested in the PvE aspect of it. Would it be able to run level 4s?

With dual XL ASB's I imagine it could definately be able to tank level 4s. I don't know if it would have enough DPS though as it's rather limited with drones. But honesty I don't see why you'd even want to try to run level 4s in one, aside from mucking about.

Meh. I'm not crazy about it, but it could be funny. Might get 200 DPS if they're in range of your smartbombs AND taking full damage from four hobs and an ogre. The Orca's powergrid is deliberately gimped so that it can't do this stuff well. Can tank 1000 dps while the asb is running, has a 55k shield buffer and 214k total ehp. Would take quite a while for a small gang to take it apart.

Well seeing as the OP asked about doing level 4's with it I assumed he'd be doing them in high-sec, in which case smart bombs are a big no-no.

They can work, just don't get caught by the ninjas :)

Also, see edit. I pretty much trashed my original post and started over.

smart bombs and drones What? I see some tears.
I have seen someone tank a lv4 in an orca and use it to salvage while dual boxing. This was pre-noctis. Not sure though it is the most efficient way to do it though.

A number of ships and configurations that are genuinely amusing on sisi don't always quite transfer to TQ.

Solo? No clue never really thought of trying to mission/rat in an Orca. If you mean in a support role, it works, sorta. Recently tried using my orca pilot for drone support to speed things up, but the added DPS was pretty sad. Like others have said you don't have much to work with. The Orca is pretty much like any mining ship, has just enough grid/CPU/slots to do what it was intended to, and little else.

In the end I trained the Orca pilot up for a Gila. No weaps, just tank in the mid and rigs, damage amps in the lows, worked out fine, can tank pretty much whatever happens to aggro just fine and still adds an extra 300 or so DPS to the mix (with plenty of room for logistic drones if I get in over my head).

A nice niche is that you can store a combat vessel inside.

I usually take took it around to give me gangboosts in system and hold my noctis. Warp it into my missions usually and just have it sit there boosting and when done I can fly to it, switch out the noctis/combat ship and carry on. Storing the loots etc in the cargo.

Can also cloak it up if you prefer.
