Pretty cool RTS game if you ask me and very beautiful environment as well. Not sure if anyone else has played this but I wouldn't mind seeing some ideas and things from this game brought to EVE.Shocked

SoaSE was waaaaaay too strategically shallow to call it a good RTS.

The earlier Red Alerts are incredibly shallow by today's standards but they are still amongst the greatest. Same with the old Age of Empires.

Space. It seems to go on and on forever. But then you get to the end and a gorilla starts throwing barrels at you.

Both were quite a bit deeper than SoaSE. It had minimalist economy management and combat tended to be decided by who had more ships. Frankly, the endgame was just boring. The only thing it had going for it was that it was pretty.

FU guys. Supreme Commander (well, really Total Annihilation!) followed closely by Homeworld!

... and what is a good RTS in your opinion just so we can make a baseline of a good RTS.

Anyways, one thing that Eve and SoaSE have in common is that it literally robs hours from you lol.

As far as ideas that sins of a solar empire that could be used in eve is Star Bases. A 0.0 station that has guns and fighters.

Sup Com's Assist command was one of the greatest RTS features ever introduced, it's a shame that more games don't use something similar.

That being said, I'm not sure what the OP hopes EvE will pick up from an RTS because they're entirely separate genres.

Both awesome games, which doesn't preclude Sins from also being good.

Well one can wonder what isn't in EVE already that is in Sins. Titans, Capitals, Starbases, Ships are all already in the game. Granted the Sins starbases are a little cooler than just a big bubble surrounding a stick with other stuff floating about.

Phase jump inhibitors maybe, making it last longer before a ship reaches warp, although cyno jammers could be considered Phase jump inhibitors. Broadcast nodes are like the TCU's in a way, Trade stations I suppose would be the custom offices, refineries are incorporated into POSses and stations. Phase stabilizers are the jump bridges.

The Novalith cannon, Kosturas cannon and Deliverance engine have no real equivalent in EVE, but I'm not sure how you'd put them in and if would even be a good idea. A weapon that is built in one system and can destroy another over huge distances wouldn't work out very well.

Artifacts maybe, exploring a planet can give you Ancient tech that enhances your ships and other aspects. Stronger weapons, better defenses, faster ships, faster research, etc. Though I think Sov upgrades serve that role in EVE somewhat.

I could go on but as it stands right now I can't think of anything that EVE is missing.

In this dark void we are like brilliant stars, holding within us both the creative and destructive power to bring a new dawn upon worlds or plunge them into eternal darkness.

it might of been shallow, but it's more indepth than eve SOV mechanics!

SoaSE is all about the metagame. There are no real combat tactics, just empire strategy and fleet maneuvering. It's about building the right stuff and putting it in the right place at the right time. The battle is won before it begins.

I played a bunch of Galactic Civilizations and Sins when they first came out. I love the colonization empire building TBS aspects of both games which remind me of Civ, Alpha Centauri and especially Masters of Orion. Also the time length for Sins is perfect for an evening based off of the map size.

Not sure how it is similar in game mechanics to EVE though, or what could possibly be incorporated into EVE. Maybe this is a topic more suited for Out of Pod than in general.

It seems we mean SCI FI Rts games here, so no mentioning Company of Heroes or Total War: Shogun which both have great things about them

As mentioned before, Supreme Commander. Specifically the Forged Alliance expansion, and not the second one.

I've been in enough battles where we were outnumbered 2-1 to know that simply doesn't apply to EVE.

The thing about EVE is that the coalition with the most pilots also happens to have the best FCs in the game.

The greatest thing about CoH is the disappointment in Relic's inability to balance the game.
