question about social skills

thinking of training social skill books but curious what is means when it says "Not cumulative with.." they wont adversely effect each other will they?

They will not adversely affect each other ... but neither will the bonuses add to each other. Only one or the other will apply.

so what you are saying is just learn one cuz only one will apply and the rest won't? thanks or since they effect different types of NPCs does it not mater?

It means they'll only apply in a specific situation, and only one will apply at a given time (not cumulative).

For instance, Connections (4% Modifier to effective standing from friendly NPC Corporations and Factions per level. Not cumulative with Diplomacy or Criminal Connections) will only raise standings of those with positive standings. Diplomacy only applies to negative factions and Criminal Connections will only apply to friendly "criminal NPCs" (e.g. Angels, Blood Raiders, etc).

Connections and Diplomacy are both immensely useful if you're a mission runner.

Don't forget to train Social (the skill itself). It makes you gain standings faster.

if you like LP´s then train the Security - Mining - Distribution Connection skills as well, they give you a 10% increase per lvl
