Profit in a small POS

I am trying to find ways to help fund my PvP, currently I have an alt that I have used for mining and hauling my junk around but I would like to get him more involved in industry.

I am just looking to do small things and learn about industry so I only really plan on trying things like building small ships, ammo, drug manufacturing, and a little research.

If I pay attention is it possible to make money in a small POS after paying for fuel every month, or will I have to think bigger? Maybe I should be more focused if all I have is a small POS?

Thank you.

A small POS will be destroyed within a few days really. They are such an easy target people will destroy it simply because they can.

doing highsec research is a pain but can be profitable. Train your characters to 9 research slots (like 7 days for 9 slots) and do ME research on easy to sell bpo's (or for personal use). Also PI can be profitable and takes very little time/effort.

I understand smalls are easily popped, but to do so another corp would have to declare war on me, giving me time to tear the POS down, though I guess this is not the greatest solution since to start I would have to pay for an outsider to start the corp and get the proper standings.

Hmmm, I will have to do more research and debating, it would be a pain the butt to tear things down and have to pay to get my corp standing back up if I do not have the standing myself.

Look into Cosmos missions. You should be able to get your standings up to at least where you can anchor in a .5 system somewhere. Especially if your alt already had some standings with a faction. If you want to anchor in lets say Minnie space, just run the Minnie and Gallente COSMOS missions as they will give you standings to both factions. If you want to anchor in Caldari space, just run Caldari and Amarr instead. There are guides on the forums on how to run them. Just read them to make sure you do it in the right order. Hope this helps.

It depends on how much isk you have. small poses are dirt cheap these days (less than 200m for a tower plus 2 labs), so while a huge hassle, its really not a huge setback if someone blows your hisec small research tower up. Keeping it safe is really a function of where you put it and the luck of the draw. There are several ways to mitigate the risk.

1) choose a system with a station in it. Attackers will realize there is a chance you're not dumb and won't have any BPOs inside the pos.
2) choose a system off main travel routes and not overly close to a trade hub. Sometimes, simply getting a moon in a good location is a challenge. If there are other free moons in the system you choose, then people won't be compelled to blow up your pos just to have a place to anchor.
3) Don't put (expensive) faction mods on it.
4) You won't be able to dissuade groups of 6 or more people from killing your pos. However, the potential payoff for these groups is too low to merit their involvement. You're defending against the 1 guy with 3 characters that will wardec you in exchange for 50-300m isk pos ransoms, and set up some AFK geddons to RF your pos while both you and him are asleep. Have defensive modules anchored, and max out your pos cpu/pg with them. Have a setup for both when labs are online, and when labs are offline for full defense. Chances are, a few offlined ECM mods will dissuade him from deccing you in the first place.

Small poses are cheap enough that saving them isn't worth the grief of dealing with standings issues to reanchor. Better to just risk that it won't get exploded.

POS bashing is very rare in high sec. Even a small POS is not worth the bother. it is far to boring for no return. I believe they were referring to a small POS in null where they do just get popped for fun. considering how quickly a dread or carrier can take them down. I had a small POS in high sec for almost 2 years without a single war dec. A small caldari POS can run 3 labs. plenty of slots for a single indy alt. Buy popular BPO's do the ME/PE research and sell them, or make copies and sell the copies.
a small POS will cost you less than 150 mil a month or less. You can make way more than that just doing ME/PE research if you do it right.
