I don't think so.

USS John F. Kennedy, HMS King George V, the IAV Stryker, M1 Abrams, M48 Patton, etc.

It's perfectly normal human nature to name these sorts of things after people.

No, it's american and western nature. Challenger tank, the HMS Invincible, the USS Enterprise...

The world extends beyond america's borders.

Don't be an ass, Americans aren't the only ones who name their ships after people.

Why don't we just name it "Mittens"?

Comparing the Mittani to Chribba is equivalent to comparing Judas Iscariot to Jesus. Why would any game developer name a ship after a failed CSM Chair who brought negative publicity to EVE Online?

On the other hand, Chribba's contribution is tangible.

Chribba's made a few nice websites yes, but I don't think he's contributed to content in-game as much as The Mittani has. As chairman of the CSM he was after all in part to thank for CCP recognizing their colossal mistake with the Incarna expansion and contributing ideas for the successful Crucible expansion.

Or has everyone forgotten that already?

He would have been recognized as someone of esteemed importance, except the fact that he brought everything he had worked for crumble to dust, by bringing CCP floods of negative publicity, thanks to a handy work he did on enticing thousands of other players to partake in a role to get someone to commit suicide. It makes absolutely zero sense to commemorate his acts when his foolishness brought negative attention from media.

Have you forgotten about that already?

Eve is unique as far as I know in having so many (in)famous characters due to the single shard universe. I personally like the idea of these characters becoming part of the history and lore. Other games (besides mission teaming games like Guild Wars, Diablo and Phantasy Star which have shared lobbies/cities) don't even have this option or fail to utilize it. I would rather know that names and events are all based off of player ran characters than random NPCs that have no soul and little character.

If you paid isk to get into GoonSwarm, you were probably scammed.  If you had the foresight to save the name of your scammer, let me know and I'll do what I can to help you.

Close. How about combining some suggestions : Chribba Class Hull : Veldnfrig

Before we do any ship naming, shouldn't we ask Chribba if he wants a ship named after him?

Words in the dictionary close to Chribba that have cutesy definitions befitting a wee mining frigate: Chert, Cherup, Chirm, Chirr. Cherub as well, I suppose.

Or go with the Hulk theme and call it the Dwarf. Or Skiff theme and call it a Dinghy.

Or call it the ORE Tonka.

If CCP really wanted to give him something, they should give him a personal unique veldspar arm tattoo for his avatar.

Perhaps the ship shouldn't be an ORE ship - it should be designed by Otherworld Enterprises.
Or maybe just even something in the description and give it a bonus that gives a little nod to Chribba

e.g. Frigate bonus of 20% to Veld mining

"For this project, the engineers from ORE engaged with Otherworld Enterprises to design a ship that specialised in mining Veldspar blah blah..."

This could be done without it being seen as too far removed from Eve lore context.

No to it being named the Chribba.

"Veldnaught" works though as does the Chribba Class vessel and the veld mining bonus. As it is designed as the starter ORE vessel.

The ORE G.A.S.M. is funny as anything and would be my second choice for a name. Quite along the line of the Target Painter Acronyms tbh.

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

The first one is a single ship ... the second one, too, I think?

I think everyone is free to name their ore frigate Chribba, but I also don't think you should name an entire line of spaceships after a player, to be honest.

Edit:
If only for avoiding such discussions like this here which really don't serve well to honor someone.
Also, from what I've read and seen so far, Chribba already kinda is a monument himself, and also honored with official publications about his char/person.

We are not just talking about an act of changing the name of a ship. We are talking about commemorating or honoring someone for his achievements.

No, but I've forgiven, which is something it seems everyone but the victim is capable of doing. Granted The Mittani did give him 10 billion ISK but when you multibox 27 mining accounts even that's probably just peanuts to you. As far as CCP is concerned they give themselves more than their fair share of bad publicity, and they've already sanctioned Mittani by forcing his resignation from the CSM (I doubt he cared much about being banned for 30 days).

I was among those who were outraged at his behavior at Fanfest and at the time I recall there were several Goons who were as well, which I'm sure surprises you to hear. But I've moved on from that.

In any case, I'm not arguing that we should name a ship after him. I'm not arguing that he was alone in conveying the outcry over Incarna and contributing to Crucible. I'm merely arguing that player contributions to the community should be honored regardless of who they came from or what else that person has done. I'd still be saying this if it were Xenuria on the CSM bragging about ruining that miner's day and making pointed jokes about suicide.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)

I already suggested that Chribba be the special edition, not the stock. It would have veldspar related bonuses, including a massive veldspar hold for compressed veldspar, which it would be able to do. No point in naming it Chribba if its not about the veldy...

I vote we call it the "Hilmar". A nice easy way to vent our frustrations with this game is to gank a Hilmar!
