Hello one and all ive recently picked up EvE again after a 2 and a half year-ish gap
used to do ratting with a few IRL mates that no longer play

I'm interested in PvP but dont really know what my options are....i have enough money to warrant losing a fair few ships if it comes down to it.

Took a trip into 0.4 just to see what was happening and whey warp sphere, blown to bits and instantly podded, guess the "P-A-T-R-I-O-T-S" arent interested in making any money out of pirating..

So based on my fairly dismal experience so far does anyone have any reccomendations as to where i should start when looking for a little more PvP / piratey gameplay from EvE?

Join RedvBlue and learn how to PVP, also learn that few pirates are honourable enough to even bother ransoming.

Join hulkageddon, it's fun.
On a more serious note, look for pirate corporations, they'l get you started.

At this point your options are spread pretty wide:

- Red vs. Blue (if you don´t mind to pvp without a reason)
- Faction Warfare (see above)
- Join a pirate corp that actualy teach members (there you can chose from: highsec / lowsec /nullsec corps)

I´d suggest the later - as this was how i turned myself from mining into pewpew a few years ago.

You got killed and podded in 0.0 by an Alliance where I am not even sure if they do pvp at all or just accidently kill **** while ratting at the gates.
They are no pirates....also what would there be worth ransoming in your case? Standard ransom charges are well beyond 100 Millions....

0.4.. and I kinda assumed from all the content I read on these forums / guides that ransoming actually took place and that EvE might have been a little more strategic then other MMO's when it comes to pvp, whereas there's still quite a large portion of people who just want to pew pew, clearly you are one of them.

Thank you for poking you uneducated nose into this thread and taking it completely off of its "information gathering purposes"

fw lowsec (both sides) is a good place to start a piracy career. Use frig hulls.

Ransoms do happen (more often than you think) but ransom the pod not the ship. Also, a lot of people normally do not ransom young characters (i do xD).

While ransoms are not always offered, depending on character age, corp, whether someone is trying to get top killer this week and how bored the FC has been...

Most established/well known pirate corps and alliances are very strict about honoring ransoms, this is for a simple reason REPUTATION. If a corp gets a rep for not honoring ransoms then no one will pay and they won't make isk.

Oh and defending my colleagues in infamy I have tended to find more trustworthy pirates in this game than trustworthy carebears. Maybe being red flashy and having to rely on eachother to move things makes us better people... or maybe the thought you are dealing with someone who is currently planning how they would kill you if you double cross them :)

Scammers are currently selling killrights on this toon for up to 5mil, if you have paid for this service demand your money back at once.

Killing me should be for free.

This. Also because I'm more helpful the Peri our recruitment forum is here.

And ransoms happen but young pilots are usually so poor by comparison it's most never worth it.

If you are back in Eve after a long break you have a fair few options to be honest.

If you want to learn basic pvp without any real danger from outside entity's then corps like RvB or Eve Uni are good, both operate in high sec but also do some low sec.

FW is good also for learning the ropes in low sec,

i beleive you can go full pirate in FW now without any major issues.

If you want genuine pirate corps, its worth considering if you are happy being -10, going full pirate inflicts a lot of limitations you may not be ready for, but at the same time also allows you to have a lot of fun and pretty much have free reign to do whatever you want to do.

Something additional to keep in mind with pirate corps is many have different play styles, some will ransom and some will not, some are trustworthy and some are not, but more importantly some specialise in gate camping 23/7, while others specialise more in actual gang PvP or pure hotdropping, knowing what playstyle you would prefer would help you deciding which corp to choose.

There is an endless list of pirates but here are some i am aware of:

Tundragon: gate campers / hotdrops based in Lonetrek area.

Snuff Box: i beleive they do some camps, but personally i consider them one of the best small gang/mixed play style PvP pirate Corp in eve (others may disagree), just my opinion.

Shadows of the Federation: Gallente FW pirate corp, does as it says on the tin, FW and pirating....probably one of the best known FW corps along with Wolfsbrigade (Amarr)/IFW(Minnies).

Fairlight Corp/Rooks and Kings: Needs no introduction, Hotdrop specialists, live in low sec but operate mostly in 0.0, the way they operate is very specific, but what they do they do with amazing panache, probably the best pirate alliance in game (if you dont mind not roaming).

Immortalis Inc/Shadow Cartel: Medium sized pirate alliance based in low sec.

Negative Ten/The United: gate Campers based in and around Rancer.

Tuskers: small gang to frig blob Pirate training Corp - i beleive they tend to fly smaller ships such as frigs/cruisers (not sure tho)

The list goes on.....but ther eis some of them, many have very different recruitment, policies, some you can get in easy, others you may have to give your sister to them and possibly even sell a kidney to stand a chance in hell.

Cheers
