So, what got you started with EVE?

My friend kept syaing, "you have to try this game!". At the time I did not want to pay a fee every month, and my internet connection sucked. 2 years later, I found myself home alot taking care of my family, and i had gone thrugh all my games so many times, I could do the entire storylines in my sleep. So my friend says, " try it, if you like it I will pay for your first 6 months." That was 2 years ago. Cool

Alts have been changed to protect the Innocent. You may have mistaken me for someone who cares.....

Back in 07 the stories and the sov warfare and stuff. Although I did not have money to play the game at the time, I read EVE news religiously. The allure of a hard unforgiving game is what brought me in.

At the time I never heard of Ultima Online either xD

I just got back into computer gaming very recently. Been doing xbox games for a long time. Unfortunately, my first pc game since coming back was Diablo 3. That was one of the most disappointing, insulting games I've ever played, so after quitting that garbage, I went out and searched the internets for my next "favorite" game. At first I thought I was going to try a free to play one, since some of those are all right, but as soon as I got a couple days into my trial here, I was hooked.

I know it's early, but if my initial impressions of this game are even close to accurate, this might turn into one of my favorite games evar :-)

I used to play Freelancer. Heard about EVE through the multiplayer and decided to try it out. If you never played Freelancer it was pretty much like EVE Atari, but a lot of fun (and ironically like EVE, there was a lot of incomplete stuff in it).

yeah they rushed the crap out of freelancer.

Was initially intrigued with it after reading reviews on release, but couldn't get over the "eeeeew, I have to pay a fee to play this game I already bought" factor. Fast forward a couple of years and City of Heroes has eliminated that as a factor. Then I read about the Ubiqua Seraph infiltration and think that despite me having no interest in pulling something like that, I absolutely love that it's possible. So when a couple of City of Heroes friends decided to come here, I followed. That was in 2006, I've never been unsubbed other than briefly before monoclegate was resolved.

Back in November 2006 I was in a truckstop restaurant in Ashland, Virginia. Had my laptop open and was surfing a bit. A guy in the table next to me starts up a conversation about computers which gravitates to games. I tell him im not much into gaming but I do like sci fi stuff. He mentions Eve Online. I took a look at the game and downloaded the client (in 2006 it was only about 500mb Shocked ) Took me 4 hours over the crappy truckstop internet access point. Started the trial. Played for about 4 days or so. got bored because I didn't really understand what the game was. Dropped it due to loss of interest and not having access to internet every night.

Fast forward ------> October 2009

Sitting at home on my hometime trying to find something to do online. I run across one of Eve Online's ads. Couldn't figure out why it looked so familiar until I downloaded the client. By this time, I had much more consistent access to the internet so I started a new trial. Played around solo for a month or so. Almost lost interest and quit again but fortunately found a good player corp that took noobs in. They gave me the reason to stay in game cuz I finally figured out WHAT it was all about.

Been in it ever since.

New to Eve, but not MMO's... my reasons for coming to Eve:

1) Sandbox!! Too many themepark MMO's out there and most of them suck.

2) High level of meta-gaming. I love the API access! Brilliant design decision.

3) Dog eat dog & very few rules; but somehow, still an awesome community (well, mostly)!

4) Eve reminds me of vanilla Ultima Online (my fav MMO ever)... but in space!

5) ONE SEVER with craptons of players! The Eve design team and infrastructure guys actually know what they are doing, eh? Unlike the SWTOR guys, for example, who are.. well.. not so much... massive server fail/design in that game.

6) Eve doesn't try to live on re-hashed, generic MMO formulas that have been used over and over... just seems like the CCP devs are of higher quality than most MMO devs.

7) Space politics!

8) The fact that Eve has been around and a very 'steady' MMO since 2003 also speaks to it's smart design and solid game-play.

I did load up Eve briefly back around early 2005, but put it down in favor of WoW. :( In hindsight, I regret not picking Eve over WoW! 40-50m SP would be nice to have about now.. haha

I used to play the Ultima series since Ultima II, was always interested in the MMO idea and ended up playing UO as a natural consequence. Payed fortunes for terrible dial-up connections back then and didn't leep playing for long but got to know a few people during that time and kept loose contact with them.

One day, I was just in the mood to go for an MMO again and asked one of them what they'd recommend, which was eve.

Never played an MMO except UO, DAOC, Eve and AOC beta.

I saw a couple of guys playing this at an internet cafe about 7 years ago. One of them said "Nothing is more relaxing than mining ore after a long day at work'. Then someone suicide ganked them.

Mid 2009, stumbled upon the Butterfly Effect Trailer after giving up on Guild Wars. Read about the Guiding Hand heist, the Goon/BoB war, and how Eve had an economist on staff. Made my way through the trial and finally decided that I wanted to keep exploring what I could do in this massive, pretty sandbox.

I am not dissapoint Big smile

Was talikng to someone in another MMO (Saga of Ryzom although they renamed it since to Ryzom) and he mentioned this one that he'd also been playing. So about 9 months later as I was starting to get bored of the one I had been playing I decided to see what this one was actually like.

I got tired of easy games and heard there was a CCP dev that described the new player experience in Eve as "Here's a rubik's cube, go **** yourself." Game - point.

I've just tried every MMO since 1998. Usually I subscribe for everything from first trial or beta test (except for Asian MMOs) but EVE took like 5 trials. Game became playable for me somewhere around 2009.

I got into the game after buying the novel "The Empyrean Age" back in 09...what surprises me is that I stuck with the game even though the book was rubbish (as have been all three of the novels so far)

Loved the hell out of the original Ultima Games.

My favorite of the series was 5, followed closely by 4..... They had kickass music on my apple II...

Beeep brrrrp beeep baaaaa boooooo beeeep.

As you can imagine, I picked up Ultima Online on it's launch day. Had a blast for awhile but it eventually lost its charm.
