I love my kestrels.

Rocket brawler:

Rigs:
Small em screen reinforcer
Small shield extender
Small ancillary router

Highs:
4 t2 rocket launchers

Mids:
T2 Medium shield extender
Limited 1mm mwd
Meta 3 warp scram

Lows:
T2 micro auxillary power core
T2 ballistic control

It's a beastly little brawler with good dps. That said, I have very good fitting skills and a +3% CPU implant.

What exactly is the reason why missiles are considered no good for PVP? I am just hazy on the details.

Essentially it comes down to the fact that missiles take time to reach their target - unlike turrets which "insta-hit".

This "flight time" to target means that while they do good volley damage their DPS is low compared to guns. It also means the target can avoid your damage by warping before being hit (unless tackled).

Also in large fights (or ganks) the target may die before your missiles reach them - which is annoying.

Amarr (Khanid) missile boats get around these disadvantages by being up close and personal brawlers (e.g. Malediction, Sacrilege) but this confines them to using only close range missile types (e.g. Rockets and HAMs)

Caldari are more versatile missile users but only a few of their ships have bonuses to missile ROF or velocity (e.g. Raven) which somewhat compensate for the above drawbacks. They more commonly receive a kinetic damage bonus which is less useful (but is nasty for Minmatar opponents!).

Missiles have several advantages

- Choice of all damage types
- No cap use
- No tracking (i.e. they always hit)

However, to balance things out CCP reduced the damage that they actually do by making it depend on the size and speed of the target (velocity and signature radius) so missiles rarely do FULL damage to equivalently sized targets UNLESS used in conjunction with a TARGET PAINTER. There are more details about this elsewhere - it's too complicated to explain quickly :)

Thanks for this info.

Hey there.

I just started out here in EvE and was thinking of joining RvB to learn the basics of PvP.
I noticed that everyone is mainly flying Minimatar and those who I asked said to reroll for Minimatar or Gallente.

So I'm going to just completely ignore them and reach out to the Caldari Pilots here.
Tips on PvP with missiles?

I guess if RvB is a lot of frigate fights I would be in a kestrel or Harpy.

Can some seasoned misslie PvPers share some secrets to help me pop those nasty rifters! Pirate

Thanks.

Merlin. But tbh, RvB wont give you a real taste of PvP. I had the same idea a while back, but i learned how RvB can be restrained, and pretty blob vs blob. If you want to get some real action, join a pvp corp in nullsec like i did. You will learn some solo stuff, small gang warfare, and the rats here have 1mil boutnied Pirate!

Mine is cheaper, but has no tank to speak of other than speed tanking. It does 2687 ms cap stable till you turn on the web, which you shouldn't unless someone gets within 13 km of you. 2mins 50 secs with the web on. Admittedly my fitting skills are perfect. No hardwiring required though.

Speaking from experience having been there and done that...
A very important tidbit of Info that i haven't seen driven home yet in this thread is Missile choice.
I had to learn this the hard way, but back in my RvB days I flew a Kestrel against a Rifter pilot a number of times, and he constantly kicked my can. After about the third defeat I asked him what I was doing wrong?

He laughed and said I was shooting the wrong stuff... I was shooting Scourge (Kin) missiles at him, and he was using Kin Hardeners because that's what "Caldari pilots shoot". I did a little research on the Rifter, and I beat him soundly on our next fight with Nova (Thermal) Missiles. Yes, I wasn't getting the Racial Bonus that Kinetics give you, but it was more than adequate to blow through the Thermal "hole" the Rifter (especially one that is using Kinetic Hardeners) has. Lesson Learned.

Caldari:
Kestrel, Hookbill, Hawk, Crow (interceptor), Caracal, Cerebrus, Rook, Tengu, (I truly wish they would come out with a missile based destroyer!), Raven, Drake,

Amarr:
Sacriledge, Inquisitor, Vengeance ( a fan favorite), Malediction (interceptor),

Gallente:
Tristan (partial), ... don't think Gallente gets much in the way of missile boats.

Minmitar:
Breacher, Huginn (kind of), Typhoon (kind of).

For smaller ships combats, Id recommend taking Amarr as your secondary if you stay with missiles (and I say stay with them, they are fun!). The Vengeance comes highly recommended, and is where I am aiming to pilot next. ;)
