@CSM, good work!

I'm not sure if this was directed to me but if so I am not really being clear. I am saying they should just record the actual meetings witth the devs and edit out the parts that they feel the players shouldn't hear. it would surely be much quicker, easier, more timely, and transparant than messing around with minutes months after the meeting.

personally I might listen to 2 or 3 sessions. Whatever intrests me.

The problem there is the NDA parts aren't necessarily clearly defined and seperated from the OK parts.

True, it might get a bit choppy if they have allot of stuff they don't want the players to hear. Its just a suggestion. I would think some sessions woudl be easy to kick out (like perhaps the ui) others maybe not so much.

Updated, we are now done with the first drafts for all sessions.

As for releasing a full transcript or the audio or video of the sessions, there are a few reasons why that is not a good idea:
1) CCPers will have to be *much* more careful what they say. You guys already carefully parse everything they write on the forums, just thing what he tinfoil hat brigade would do with 24 hours of video!
2) As I mentioned before, it is 24 hours of video. Most people on the CSM who don't go to iceland don't even watch all the sessions. You can ready the 150 or 200 pages of minutes a lot quicker.
3) Having text makes it a lot easier to quote small portions for discussion here. Trust me, even just transcribing a few minutes of speech into a few quick paragraphs isn't easy, and you guys don't want to all be doing it.

With that being said, I think it might be interesting to release some of the videos, especially after some time has passed and NDA concerns are no longer important. I think it would be really good for the CSM process for everyone to understand how the Iceland summit works. Sadly, I don't think the videos of the past summits would be worth putting up, as you really cannot follow what is going on. Now that we have the new Lync camera thing, it might be worth thinking about putting some of the videos from this summit up sometime in the future.

All this extra work due to a super secret nda is pretty crazy.

If ccp just did away with the nda they could just record the sessions release it on mp3 and be done with it. Actually I think they still could just delete the parts they feel are too secret for the players, and be done with it.

The extra work really has nothing to do with the NDA. The NDA has this mystique about it - many players thinks that we wave it like a red cape to deflect charging bulls, others think its what CCP uses it to protect its super secret skunkworks plans about the next button to add to the UI that players would rage if they knew existed - but really its much simpler. The NDA covers the stuff that would damage the company - stuff like release dates or pricing that they wouldn't want competitors to hear. I've seen how the sessions have gone through the review process, and the NDA has been used primarily to delete several words here and there, or a sentence at the most. It's not once been used to black out an entire conversation, or to censor a particular topic. If it was discussed at all during the summit, it was recorded.

The reason the minutes are longer, is because of the transparency the players are asking for. You wanted to know who said what about a particular topic, and breaking down conversations in this manner, even to get the main ideas across in each dialogue, takes a lot more words. We avoid the minutia of people talking about the schedule for the rest of the day, or what's for lunch, or who they're waiting on to come back from a bathroom break. So no blah blah.

But you are going to hear some detailed conversations about how exactly to adjust a particular feature, and who wanted to see it done this way or that way. That's what we heard everyone wanted to hear, for accountability's sake as well as to sharply focus player feedback onto the specific direction CCP wants to go with a feature.

I personally think this is a huge step in the right direction, we'll see how this works out for the community. There's nothing to say we can't further iterate on the minutes process for the winter summit. I'm sure there will be no shortage of suggestions on how to make them even better, you'll just have to read them first and see what you think.

What if someone genuinely wants more transparency on your bladder functions? Isn't this a sandbox ?!?

With that said, I am really glad that the minutes now contains who actually said the things. It's a huge improvement and I am sure it will have effects on the next election debates.
Again, thanks for the work. It is much appreciated!

Allow me to tl;dr the demands of the EVE community for you:

And if they don't do it right away, and if they do change anything, then it proves that the CSM are a useless PR trick populated wholly by 0.0 alliance puppets who are in it purely for a free trip to Iceland.

I'm sure the minutes will be better than in the past. They could hardly be worse than when we had "the csm" suggested x and we didn't even know who on the csm suggested what and therefore had to read third party blogs to find out.

But at least for me, in faction war, so much has changed in the last few months its hard for me to even rember what sort of back ground you had going into that summit. I have a hunch much of what I am interested in, will be old news.

Just a suggestion. Maybe next time when you meet take care of preliminary stuff like who you are waiting for and where the next meeting will be and then after that is done, just start a recorder to get the meat of the discussion. If the person in charge of minutes writes down the times where pricing and release dates (or anything else possibly nda related) came up the editing should be easy. If you have a 3 hour session going through and deleting out release dates or pricing stuff shouldn't be that hard to do right after the summit. No big deal.

You could have an mp3 of the minutes in a week or 2.

This is not a complaint, its just a suggestion to make it easier on you guys. I have done things similar to minutes and I know what sort of headache it can be where people are trying to read them and remember back weeks ago - let alone months.

Whatever you guys want to do. If this whole minutes stuff is as much work as you guys suggest and there really isn't that much nda I would just edit the video (or audio) and be done with it.

As for your specific points:

1) I don't really care about tinfoil hats and I think accomodating them is a bad idea. But if you want to go ahead.

2) I don't see how you could create minutes of 24 hours of sessions faster than you could simply edit out certain parts that you could easily mark as you go. Like I said the person recording could mark the times of the recording when things likely dealing with nda came up etc. But again its your time.

3) I don't think anyone would need to transcribe it. I'm not sure how this applies.

The issue would be that if someone wanted to know what happened at the summit, they would either have to watch 24 hours of video or rely on someone else to do so.

I have asked for stuff like this in the past, and I don't think CCP would be willing to do it.

I think its important to remember that there is nothing obligating CCP employees to appear on publicly-disseminated video, or audio for that matter. Many may not feel comfortable doing so, and that's totally fine. Just because you are shy or want to maintain privacy doesn't mean you're covering up some big secret or that you don't want to take responsibility for your statements.

So while l, too, think there isn't much harm in releasing the videos from an NDA point of view, it may never happen for this reason alone. That's why we're working to get as much transparency as possible while still making the developers feel comfortable, we want them to continue to share with us for many years to come.

Two step:
Put out the different sesssions in seperate mp3s. You are dividing the minutes into about 20 different catagories so its the same thing. Like I said, I would just listen to a few sessions on topics I am interested in. I think very few would watch 24 hours of it, just like few will read all the minutes. People will just read/watch what they are interested in.

Hans:
As far as not wanting to be public I'm not sure that would be an issue. I mean the people who are in the session from ccp are announced. So we know who it is communicating from ccp at these sessions from reading the minutes. If something happened that was just embarrassing that could be cut.

Again I don't really care. I'm just trying to be helpful. The process just seems way more burdensome than it needs to be.
