Let's get the ball rolling: For me, I believe I saw one of those rare adverts way back in the day. First MMO I ever really played, and here I am 6 years later, excluding a few months of "refresher quits."
Been a sucker for ships in space based games since the old BBS days with Trade Wars..

Friend of mine convinced me to give it a go, I'd been playing guild wars for about a year and was getting abit bored with endless grind so decided to give it a shot, never looked back

My friend told me it would be way too complicated for me to understand. I told him I was gonna play and be an awesome space pirate.

I failed.Sad

Saw adverts for Eve while it was in beta, started playing for a short time when it first came out, early summer of 2003.
Real life got in the way so stopped playing.
Started again five years ago.

EVE Never Fades

Way back, this vid impressed me so much Smile

It' still pretty awesome after all those years. Love the music.

Hah!

I have a few friends I got into the game simply by showing them that vid. ;) Dare I say that Junkie XL's "Beauty never fades" is timeless.

I was pretty much forced to at least give EVE a try. Now I'm enjoying EVE more than I thought I would with 3 active Accounts.

Four years ago, I was a student, sitting in compsci class, complaining about how all MMOs had become dumbed down, simple, casual, and lacked customization.

Fat kid behind me pipes up and tells me no matter how hardcore I think I am, that EVE would be too much for me.

Challenge accepted.
Still working on it.

Blame my wife, its her fault...

Seriously, she watched tv documentary about virtual worlds and eve was one of those mentioned in that programm. She says to me, " I see this game on this you might actually like...".

Well i get trial, two days later im subscibed and been playing this ever since... Just love how nothing in this game is really scripted, so theres no set in stone path to follow. But you got freedom to forge your own path.. Ok that and upto 45.000 other players on same gameworld at peak times. Blink

We are Minmatar, Our ship are made of scraps, but look what our scraps can do...

Was getting bored with WoW, then read an article about the Guiding Hand infiltration. Played the trial and enjoyed it plus after eve the WoW graphics just looked too cartoony.

This. And I wanted to try an MMORPG when it was first announced (by now defunct Perpetual Games) that there was a Star Trek MMORPG in the make.

I got bored of Lineage 2 and EvE sounded cool. I love how being a **** is a valid career path, no other mmo comes close imo.

Wanted to play something my actions can make a difference then tested Eve for the first time years ago and didn't liked at all, few players and some awkward mechanics plus the fact starting players at that time didn't had such an easy life like they do now, witch is very good as change.

Restarted again a few years ago, saw learnings get hard ass kicked (probably one of the best improvements ever), UI changes, tutorial changes, graphic changes, new ships and overall a better community. Gave it this last try and since then I play nothing else.
Imho high sec became really worst and probably the worst place for new players to get the game, hopefully there are a few awesome corporations like Eve Uni and RvsB who can learn those new players getting comfortable with game mechanics and ships/pod loss. Those corporations should have a much higher impact on dev's decisions for high sec changes and make it a better place than the rubbish it is.

Saw it on BTJunkie advertised along the top in a gaming cafe, guessing someone was looking on the website that day so it was plastered and advertised everywhere.

Realised it was a place where I can be a different person, have fun without limits.

Here I am, nearly 5 years later.

Saw an advertisment and it looked to me like a Homeworld online mmo back in 2003 (homeworld 2 still being my favorite game to this day). To this day still wishing I had a Hiiagarn Battlecruiser type hull or Destroyer type hull in-game as IMHO HW2 ship hulls >Eve ship hulls.
