Dear other starship commanders,

Im pretty new to EVE and so far I enjoyed scanning/probing the most, but I have a couple of questions about it:

1. At the moment I'm using a magnate for probing and clearing respective sites, which isnt working too bad. Is there any other ship you could recommend to me? And which equipment suits the purpose best?

2. Which is the lowest sec sites I would be able to clear with a magnate and an appropriate setup?

3. And which ships would you advise me to use in lower sec (0.3- 0.0?) So far Ive read about the tengu being not to bad, but this costs something around 300 mill. and Im pretty far from that (25 Mill.). Im planing to save up for a covert ops frigate and stealth in to loot the sites and fly away as fast as possible.

4. Is it possible to have another char on the same account to fly to the sites which i discovered and fight the nsc's or do I need another account for that?

Regards
Smile

For doing radar sites in hisec it is sufficient. Assault Frigates are very good also ( Ishkur is very nice ).

Only profession sites in hisec and *some* profession sites in lowsec. Imicus is better for that because of it's 3 light drones.

Basic Tengu ( as most T3s ) costs 700mil because you also need to buy and fit 5 subsystems to it. Most exploration fits will cost you 1.5 - 2 bil ( for lowsec at least ). Using T2 fitting is possible of course but it depends on usage and desired effectiveness.

Covops frigate is only for scanning. Can be used on an alt while your main character flies combat ship capable of doing those sites.

Yes but you would need to switch chars ( you can t login both chars at the same account ). It will work but be prepared that you will be loosing some sites to other players that way ( in hisec mostly ).
You would need to use another account for that and multi box ( play 2 accounts at the same time ). It is a commonly used technique by most explorers ( especially in low and null ).

I use 2 accounts. One account flying an Anathema for scanning sites, the other in an Orca with multiple ships in it for clearing sites.

Having the Orca tag along saves a ton of time, since I can swap ships and refit on the fly.

This +1

I've got a stabber fleet issue that's my current clearing boat, an assault frigate (Jaguar) for the smaller gated sites and a Covetor in case it's a nice grav site, and I'm in the mood to mine.

My probing boat's a cheetah.

Woo! CSM XI!

Well, you can fly whatever you want and use a sisters probe bay and sisters probes to make up some of the scan strength difference (21%). Obviously this will give you some issues unless you train your various astrometrics skills to 4 or 5 as well, but it will probably be cheaper to stick those on a BC than to build a T3 cruiser for a while, especially for a newer player.

Most important thing you need to know is what signal strength you need to chase. You can fly pimped ships and have best mods if you waste time on signals that are worthless you will loose time ,and that will lead you getting with no goodies.

Check this http://swiftandbitter.com/eve/dsp/ it is working even with no DSP .

Ship wise your goal is any T3 even Legion is a bit behind other T3 hulls ,but he can do good job,

Also look on youtube guides by Ser Livingston (youtube name JonnyPew).

Thanks for all the inputSmile. It gave me some good ideas how to setup my exploration in the future. Therefore Im planning to create a char pirmarily for fighting with respective skills to get a T3 ship eventually^^. After that I'll setup an exploration char/account and do some exploration with this char for relaxing/enjoying.
Again, thanks for all the helpful answersSmile.

HI all and welcome to EVE OP,

I got a side question here how much isk/hour I can make in 0.5 and will t2 fitted BC be enough for it?

A T2 fitted BC can work in most cases and sites in hisec.

However it's slow and some sites will take a long time in a BC just by pure travel time :/

Pure isk/h is almost impossible to state since it depends so much on competition and pure luck.

edit:
oh, and you'll be locked out from the easier combat sites, but they don't give much isk/h anyway

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

Yeah, two drops worth almost 120 mil from a site I did in my Cata wasn't that much.
