Vigilant, why isn't it used more often?

I was flipping through ships today and I was wondering why the vigilant isn't used more often in the tournament considering it has substantial damage bonus, and web bonus. Seems like it might be a better option for rush teams than a Deimos or Brutix.

I think it has more to do with how many point it cost to field it vs other stuff they can put there.

A faction cruiser cost 14 points. for that you could do a tier 1 BC and a Assault frig.

Yeah, pretty much this, it's a really inefficient use of points. You can't really use it to burn after logis/kite setups and it doesn't have the tank of the Vindi to sit at 0 and trade blows with Sleipnirs/Cyclones. It's not a problem specific to the Vigilant, there aren't many faction cruisers worth 14 points, an issue shared with HACs as well.

yeah for the point value you can field two ships, which means an extra ship for the opponents ewar to focus on, and in the vigi example, you get a better tanking ship with more or less equal dps and get to use the second ship for the vigis tackle, or whatever else you may feel like using it for.

Thank you for the replies, I thought point cost might be a factor.

One more if I may. The Vigilant doesn't have t2 resists, the Deimos does. In situations with potentially high incoming DPS most choose to sacrifice a little deeps for more tanking ability.

I think it's also a factor of tank. The vigilant is a great dps platform but it has no tank bonuses, no T2 resists, and as a cruiser hull it doesn't have much in the way of buffer for logistics (or a XL ancillary with a couple co-procs) to work with. Someone puts one on the field and the other team is going to pretty much instantly take a giant dump on it.. and it's not like it can burn out to 50k and be useful, it's a blaster boat, it has to be up in the **** to fulfill its role.

Sleipnirs, Cyclones, Vindicators, Feroxes, Merlins, Hawks, Harpies... most of the non-logistics boats that have been successful (as far as I can remember) have either good tank and great damage, or great tank and good damage.
