Been awhile

Each race has a different theme
Caldari - Birds
Gallente - Greek Mythology
Minmatar - Norse Mythology
Amarr - ?????

Not sure about the last one

After some research into the name...

The Moa is an extinct flightless bird that was native to Australia. It was the main food source for another extinct bird named the Haast's Eagle. Man came and hunted the Moa to extinction and with the Moa gone, the Eagle also became extinct.

Put it in EVE perspective, the Moa is a very rarely used ship and the Eagle is almost profitable to reprocess than to actually fly in combat.

Correct, and Amarr are based on religious terms (especially Roman Catholic), Minmatar include alot of Norse mythology, melee weapons, animals and storms.

There was a thread some time back about this. if memory serves me right...

Gallente ships are named after various deities, most of them from Greek mythology.
Caldari ships are named after birds... with some exceptions.
Amarr ships are named after terms that are religious in nature.
Minmitar ships are named after various animals and weather events that denote power and/or destruction.

Gallente ships are named after various deities, most of them from Greek mythology.
Caldari ships are named after birds, and figures from Japanese folklore.
Amarr ships are named after terms that are religious in nature. mostly Christian.
Minmitar ships are named after various animals and weather events that denote power and/or destruction, but most of them are straight out of Norse mythology.

But what oh what is the Vexor named after? Aside from a mutilation of Latin, and a Big Bad Beetlborgs' henchman, I can't find any non-eve references to it.

For those of you who can read Spanish, GilGalaad from Divine Alliance bothered himself to find out the meaning of EVERY ship name in EVE. Some have got pretty weird stories...

GilGalaad (DA) at eveonline.es: EVE ship names explained (threadnaught)

Translated excerpt on the breakout of racial names:

Gallente -> Mostly names from ancient mythology

Minmatar -> Mostly Scandinavian mythology and blade weapons

Amarr -> Mostly religious concepts with elements of christian, jewish and islamic mythology

Caldari -> Mostly fantasy animals, actual animals with a mythological meaning, and Eastern mythology

Angel Cartel ->Mostly Angelology names

Blood Raider -> Mostly gore names

Sansha Nation -> Mostly Daemonology names

Jove -> Mostly names of specters and ghosts

Roses are red / Violets are blue / I am an Alpha / And so it's you

Caldari definitely has Bird associations in naming, even mythological Japanese Birds like the Tengu.

It may just be a classy Freespace hat-tip.
Nevermind, that is a user-created ship.

Vexor: first-person singular present passive indicative of vexare (to trouble, to annoy). Blink

BTW I wish there were MORE threads like this instead of the hateful BULLCRAP that gets tossed about.

A real and interesting discussion.
