MBIII seemed to be slightly intoxicated last week, this one has been better indeed.
Unlike previous tournaments, Kil2 was sort of distracted... whats happening?

I want moar commentary!

Especially with 10 minutes between matches, why can't we have a solid 3-5 minute run up to a match where the commentators can explain the fleet comps, maybe recap their previous match and then talk strategy, followed by a 2-3 minute recap after the match? That would be sooooooo much better and would allow the commentators more room to say what they want about the match before it begins enabling them to focus on the match better once it starts.

Also, I HATE that the ads almost always start before the commentators even finish the match.

Yes.. just saw a post by the FEARLESS team.. that's exactly what happened. Do you think he could have won anyway without overheating his guns?

I personally have enjoyed Michael's commentary, he's a clever and funny guy. So I don't understand all the vitriol.

From a technical point of view Raivi and Kil2 are top notch and Michael's not in the same category there, but so?

I would like to see Shadoo again in future tournaments, he's the full package :)

Kil2 has been pretty off his game lately, normally he's really good.

Kil2, Raivi, and Lazarus Telraven are all excellent commentators. They talk about the fight instead of themselves, they have a laugh when it's appropriate, and talk in calm, natural voices. Delicious.

Zastrow was... better this weekend. Didn't try to be hurr I'm nutty with shoutouts to his bros, etc. Managed to get through the whole thing without trying to call attention to his attire.

MB3 was still annoying as hell. Again, better this weekend. But still cutting off the guys I actually wanted to listen to, and just couldn't help but try and call attention to himself/his in game exploits. No one cares brah, we're here for the tourney. Not you.

Also, while I'm aware that MB3 is pretty much just straight up trolling and trying to be annoying, I have to ask... why, CCP? What's the point in having a commentator who's making it his job to annoy your viewers?

Because many people at CCP enjoy trolling Blink

Of course. Like any other source of entertainment, there will always be someone who finds anything entertaining. But, trolling is a art. There are people who are good at it and provide most of us with lulz. There are people who are bad at it and make most of us facepalm.

@ Screegs any chance that we can get a pre-match brawl between the commentators?

It seems like the commentators have a lot of trouble changing gears as things happen in the match. All of them have the same affliction, they apparently feel obligated to finish whatever they're saying (like it's the most important thing in the world) before actually commenting on events in the match.

Commentator: "So, one of the problems with ECM fits blah blah blah.."
[stalemate between teams is broken when a rook hits a jam cycle on an oneiros]
Commentator: "blah blah blah blah"
[twenty seconds pass, oneiros breaks jam, pulls jaguar out of structure]
Commentator: 'blah blah oh look, it looks like..."

Or another example,
Commentator: "blah blah blah blah"
[Match starts, ewar frig is instantly tackled and burned down]
Commentator: "blah blah blah blah"
Commentator: "blah blah blah --
Commentator 2: [interrupts to actually comment on the match]

They all seem to be suffering from a 15-20 second lag on reacting. They don't seem out of sync, they sometimes react on time, but more often they just keep yammering on with their current op-ed piece. It's very frustrating. I understand that the role of the commentators is at least in part to educate viewers who are potential CCP customers about what's going on to increase the odds of them taking an interest in EVE, but they really need to learn to put a sock in their theorycrafting and talk about the match when something important happens.

Hi,

I wanted to respond to this because I appreciate the feedback (even though your tone is a bit harsh). I've been making fairly conscious decisions around this idea this year in comparison to years past, but its difficult to find the right balance. It seems like breaking up ideas mid - sentence has the potential to be more disruptive than not mentioning things which you can obviously see for yourself. Generally though, I've been trying to be more focused on the match and less focused on bigger ideas (since there often just isn't time for them).

Again, thanks for the input, I'll be keeping it in mind for the next 2 weekends.

ps - For the first weekend especially, the delay was often because of the actual delay we have with the stream view. For the second week I think we adjusted away from that some and relied more on our client.

I was wondering about that myself, the first week the majority of the fights seemed to have about a 10 second delay between say, ship explodes, and then commentators saying "oh and there goes the whatevership". Second week I didn't see it as much but was still there at times. So are you guys running a client that you observe from and are getting a video stream at the same time that has a delay? Explain yourself!

The first weekend we just commented on the stream a lot, which is delayed even for our 'live' stream. We switched it up to a client on the second weekend which I think helped a lot.

I personally love Kil2 and Lazarus Telraven as commentators.
MBIII - he needs to play a bit more the game so he can understand from that overlay what exactly is happening.
Raivi - He thinks he is the man i would suggest him to take it easy and be on the page.
Zastrow - is a troll pure goon attitude.

I liked Raivi tbh - he comes across well and knows a bit about the game.

Laz sounds like a robot. That is no critique of his commentary, he just sounds like a robot.

That might also explain his perfectly round face. Who do you think built him?
