Am I in Trouble?

So just got back into the game after a year's absence. It's a great game in that it keeps drawing me back year after year. Anyway, went to flip some cans last night and the first one I flipped resulted in a nice red mining target. I pop it and then look at the pilot info. Poor bastard was only ten days old.

This was in Tasabeshi which is a 0.8 system and a little ways off the beaten path. I know I am not supposed to kill newbs so is there any list I can reference which shows the newb systems?

Thanks in advance,

Auar

All you did was liberate someone from the drudgery of mining! Send the poor sod a frigate for fighting back. He'll thank you later, I'm sure.

As for being in trouble? As long as you don't do that stuff in the systems named in StoneCold's linky you'll be fine.

Thank you for the link. That is excellent. Turns out all I did was teach a new player the hazards that a life of mining will bring. I feel much better about the encounter now.

Apologies if I made it seem like i didn't know I was evil. I was not inquiring about the state of my soul, just the risk of CCP intervention.

Well his ship is a pile of scrap metal and you still have your pilots license so I would say the law has looked the other way.

If it's not a 1.0 system with an academy that issues training missions in it then you're in the clear. 0.8 = too bad for him, shoulda looked up the dangers of mining with google or something.

If I steal from your can, the following applies:
I become 'red' to you.
You do NOT become red to me.

If you take it upon yourself to then shoot at me, you become red to me and I can retaliate.

If you do not shoot me, nothing happens, I go back to station and sell what I stole.

You put his apparent "stuff" into your container, Making it your "stuff" kinda, Then he takes it back, because he thinks its his. Which will make him flashy red, because he stole your stuff that he thought was his.

This isn't true anymore. Recently they extended this policy to cover Arnon, which is a 0.6 system bordering lowsec that is a regional trade hub as well as a CBD mission hub and has 20 asteroid belts that contain the best quality ore you can find in highsec. Additionally Senior GM Homonia mentioned that they intend to expand the rookie system rules to cover 17 additional systems including Hek, another system that borders lowsec and is a Minmatar L4 mission hub and Hatakani which is a caldari l3/4 hub.

So enjoy having a large number of high population, non-rookie systems in which there is a blanket ban on shooting people.

Even if they ever did apply those rules it would only apply to noobs. That 3yr old carebear is still free game, he is not safe ANYWHERE when he undocks. Rookie systems are just that they are meant to protect noobs, older players hiding there are still free game as far as I am concern. All it means is it's more entertaining when they think your an evil griefer and trash talk you after ganking them and make a pointless and invalid petition afterwards.

I don't think you're familiar with how rookie system rules are enforced. They are applied as a blanket ban on literally any non-war related PVP activity in any system that is denoted as a rookie system regardless of the age of the characters involved. If you don't believe me file a petition asking about it yourself, the response you will get is "There is currently a blanket ban of XYZ activity in a rookie system regardless of the characters invovled" or words to that effect.

You might think that the older players there are fair game, and it might be the case that they should be fair game. But given how the rules are currently, and particularly considering that they're enforced without a single shred of human judgement being involved because the GMs are abject morons you're probably actually more likely to receive some kind of infraction for screwing with an older player who knows that you're not allowed to mess with people in system X and knows where the report button is than a newbie who assumes that getting blown up is par for the course.

I looked into it further I know there is a blanket ban on any and all can flipping in rookie systems. Though from the GM posts I read it sounded like that was the extent of protection non rookies got there. Sounds like something I should look into more as there is a bit of confusion even from the posts and entire forum topic which the GM posted on this subject. Don't have a link sadly as I found it late last night on my phone so I can't post it sadly.

Just to be clear, there are two ways for a miner to become red to a can flipper.

1. Shoot at the flashing red can flipper. This includes attacking with drones, scrambling, etc.

2. Take back what is rightfully theirs. Taking the ore out of the flipper's can. That is stealing!

In this particular scenario the miner tried to take his ore back. He must have ignored the warning that he was stealing from me or didn't care about the warning. There is a chance he thought he could grab and dash if he knew enough about the game mechanics, but at ten days I doubt he even considered it.

Concerning the grab and dash. Don't try it. He wouldn't have got away...
