Real life markets begining to emulate Eve markets

In this article, there are several new trading tactics of the real world stock exchanges being discussed. One thing that struck me was "hey I've seen this before", especially the layering tactic - large orders that will never be filled.

I'm wondering if us eve players can get a second career out of advising the real world markets on "legit market manipulation", since some of the innovative stuff here seems far ahead of that simple tactic.

Hey the spammers in Jita have nothing on the Nigerian scammers of Craig's List.

Might be true:)

I was more thinking about the "sell contract an item for high price" + "place a buy order at an even higher price, but without enough money to actually complete the buy order if someone sells to you" type setups.

Considering the amount of real money at stake, and the droves of highly paid quants on wall street and elsewhere, I can guarantee you that they are way ahead of us.

Clearly it's a matter of using tactics that don't garner too much attention. Making money while still flying under the radar of the regulators is the most important thing I would imagine.

Two words: Good Luck!

Ave has hit the nail. As I said on scc-lounge nearly two years ago, if they changed the limits on Dark Pools they will just change the system input filters and re-release. Same goes for anything computerized really - most large firms have embraced the 'constant release' model so it won't take long to get a workaround in.

Real solutions are scarce really. Main one would be to never allow a computer to submit a trade/order on its own (which is happening today). Problem is, how do you track that?
