Small or medium neut as defence against nos frigs

Hi,

I'm not sure if a small or medium neut is a better defence against frigs fitted with nos. On paper (EFT) a medium neut seems superior ofc. A frig is without cap much faster. But on the other hand a medium neut cycles slower so a small nos can get in-between the cycles to keep the frig's scram active.

This is my main goal with my neut: switching off that scram so I can pull range and minimize transversal so I can hit the frig with turrets (or just warp off).

But...maybe it's just enough to create some pressure with neut + drones so the frig cannot maintain it's perfect obit (AB goes offline if fitted). It seems a small neut can do this better.

Any hint? What's your experience?

Btw: i can fit only one neut. Dual neut is no option.

Small neut wont be enough, the medium will stop them "most" of the time.

With only one neut... I think medium, if you overheat it, should do the trick.

I mean, if it's a frig using capless guns it's dodgy since they can kill your drones even without cap, and if it has nos you won't be able to turn off tackle with only a small neut. With a medium neut, the frig will be without cap every 10s or so, and might, if you are lucky, break their tackle for a moment or two. It will probably shut off their AB now and then, although whether this is enough for you to get rid of them, hard to say.

If it's a frig which uses cap-consuming guns, one medium + drones will kill it. First neut it a bit, then release drones is probably the best way.

If you are so worried but can't fit dual neuts, there's always ECM drones. They work just great vs frigate (and cruiser, even BC) hulls.

As always it depends on the enemy. Cycle time of a NOS is twice that fast than of a Neutralizer of the same time. So while a medium neutralizer caps out almost all frigates immediatelly to zero, they can easily recharce with a small NOS. Basically in average they will be just 1.5 sec every 12 secs with zero cap. So if they are not cap intensive they can easily run a scrambler on you and often also an AB since the probability module reactives on 0 cap is rather low.

If you fit a small neutralizer then once you capped them down to 0 (which takes much longer) they will be in the average 1.5 secs every 6 secs without cap. So the chance modules stop working is much higher.

Best is therefore you fit both, a medium neutralizer for fast killing cap and then small neutralizer to keep enemy cap low for most parts of the time :-)
