Iv been playing EVE for many years and I basically ignroed FW when it was first launched, dismissing it as a poor substitute for real pvp. However since then I have become a high sec carebear :P Having made my billions (and leaving soem alts to carry on the good works) I find myself considering FW having actually read a bit about it on this forum.

I have alot of questions tho and im sure they are all 101 basic intro ones that ahve been answered a million times before.
Could someone please point me toward a 101 guide - something that explains every aspect right from the beggining?

Perhaps read the Caldari militia guide and Evelopedia. That should explain most of the things I quess...

ok, managed to read the wiki - one main question remains.....

If i join say an amarr FW corp, kills lots of minnie players/npcs etc etc and gain high rep with amarr and rly bad one with minnie....does that rep remain if i then leave the FW corp?
IE if i join in FW will my standings with the enemy race be forever gimped unless i mission like hell after iv left the FW?

ooo and do you have to use the ships of your faction? or can you be a gallente player in a minnie ship fighting for caldari? :P

Aye if you tank your standings with the opposite faction it stays with you when you leave FW.

hmmm, that kinda gimps the whole thing for me really - dont really want to permanently screw up my character by not being able to go into massive chunks og high sec should i ever decide Iv had enough :(

(Id rather cut off my own balls than run missions)

Luckily, if you join Amarr, the mechanics are such that you're better off not trying to take space. Taking space (and killing members of the Tribal Liberation Force NPC corp?) is what tends to kill your standing with your enemy. If you just want PvP, it reasons (and I've heard anecdotes to this effect) that you can get just that for ages and never seriously threaten your standing.

That said, I tried to take space pretty hard for 3-4 months, got my Minmatar standing down to -6.06 (or near that: I'm still doing things that they don't like), which Diplomacy V (trained for other reasons) gets back up to -2.85. Which is not enough to mission for anyone in Minmatar space, but is well over -5.0, the point at which the Minmatar navy will attack you simply for entering their space.

So if you think you may eventually want to trade, or do incursions, or go to live events: Diplomacy is a rank 1 skill. If you think you may eventually change your mind about your balls and mission for the Minmatar or the Gallente... have you really considered the alternative? There is an alternative. It's called: get freighter-loads of standing with Amarr and (derived) Caldari, get jump clones from the 24th IC, get L4 mission access for every corp in Amarr/Caldari space - without grinding missions. You can have everyone sort of not hate you, meaning that you'll have to grind missions to get anything like this (and continually decline missions and otherwise try to balance your standings to keep everyone not-hating you), or you can have half of highsec think you're a hero and the other half - the half you fought against the interests of and don't much like yourself - not offer you missions you don't want anyway.

It's not like you're not "ruining your character" one way or another. The please-nobody-hate-me path results in every pirate faction hating you.

hmm, i might have to train diplomacy then.....i dont care about incursions or missions or trading in minmitar space, just so long as i can move about and dock etc.

Unfortunately taking space and all that is exactly what i do want to do :P which is a shame since amarr would have been a first choice....since i dont want to gimp my caldari standing at all it looks like im joining caldari :P

calddaris an ok faction right? plenty of fighting and co-operation/organization?

Amarr and Caldari are allies. You'd do the opposite of hurting your Caldari standings by working for the Amarr.

I have -9.93 standings with minmatar which diplomacy brings to -7.53. I can still move around minmatar high sec and dock. I will get attacked by the navy if I hang out too long. But as long as you don't afk through the space it is not really a problem.

The only thing I do in minmatar high sec is occassionally fit a ship up in hek or rens and keep a few plexing ships near fw places that would otherwise be tough to get to due to station lock outs.

As others have hinted at, the faction navy is pathetic, they dont point/scram, they only web and have pathetic dps, so infact they help your travel times by getting you into warp faster, if your not missioning or whatever in enemy space as you have said then you would not notice any diffrences beside said faster traveling, alot of ppl get hung up on the standings issue with fw, but then most also find that its a non-issue.

ps, join the amarr, they need the help.

Most fun I've had in this game in intense short amounts of time has been in FW. I'm in and out to do the isk thing or to cure boredom, but in general I love my time in FW. I'm probably going to get back into Amarr FW just to see what a mess the front is Blink right now, but it should be fun.

Still not sure what to think about all of the recent changes, tho... It's been boring in Minmatar FW for the most part since we crushed Amarr, so I'm looking for a change (and really don't have any patience for blob warfare).

FW is good fun - plenty of us Caldari are already doing a Half Arse job in FW so your name suggests you will fit in.

There is much more fighting lately - FW could be renamed to GFW. Lol

aaa i would, i would only I dont want to join a faction that has no intention of helping themselves.....if there was some eliment of it that was trying to get organsised and start taking back territory rather than just hang around the same 6 systems for some rather pointless pvp I right right there to help.

Another interesting thing iv noticed is that a few weks ago i looked at the recruitment forum and it was rammed with FW corps recruiting - yesterday i went through several pages, shouted out for a while in teh recruitment chanel - joined the public chanel of a feFW corps that i could find (cuodlnt find the name of many) and could barely find any FW corps at all - let alone a nice sized one looking for recruits (nice size for me =between 35-100 active players).

Im leaving my current corp today in the hope that ill be able to find recrutinig corps in the militia chat chanels : /
