This question is directed at players who choose not to PvP. I am very curious as to what barriers, if any, keep you from PvPing? Granted there are some players who live in unknown space, low sec and null sec who still avoid PvP, the question is more directed at high sec players.

So please keep the post constructive and honest guys. If you do PvP, then please don't go crazy in here with posts of 'You're doing it wrong, hurr, derp!' scaring away the non-PvPers. I really would like to just hear from them on the subject.

Thanks. Big smile

EDIT: When I say high sec players, I am referring to what is keeping them from player combat in general. It is not specific to a location in the game. That said if you live anywhere in the game and don't engage in combat feel free to say why.

Also I am seeing a lot of other players who do participate in player combat chiming in with the 'You're doing it wrong!' posts. Please just ignore them.

Strangely, some people don't like shooting intelligent opponents capable of adapting to the situation at hand, and prefer shooting at AIs or newbies.

My reaction to meeting one has always been confusion, despair and pity.

Most of the new guys I take out on roams simply dont understand the mechanics of pvp be it hisec war or low/null. They are more afraid of "doing it wrong" than actually losing a ship.

I would like to hear from them, not what you guys think. Just sit back and read for once. Thank you.

Yesterday I had my first kill. But it was pore miner in Osprey. Broke my hearth:cry] No more PvP for me.

Oh, and fixed matches are fun.

If you have in your hands the key to the fulfillment of your life's ambition and superiority over most, if you are aware that there is an absolute power on hand (just over the basic moral principles) how far are you willing to go and through what you are willing to tread?

I have not done the new tutorial in a long time, how much does it cover when it comes to PvP?

Are you new to the game and what kept you from PvPing before the Osprey?

Skill and knowledge of current PvP mechanics.

Last time I fired a shot, the Thorax had 8 heavies in tow.

And some people don't like making their own decisions in PVP combat, and prefer blobbing and relying on a FC to command everything.

On topic:

What kept me away from pvp in the beginning was that I didn't know where to start. Could say that I was overwhelmed by the sandbox. I decided to join a nullsec alliance (it was a CVA pet), but that turned out to be my biggest waste of time in EVE and almost quit the game because of that.

Now its mostly time that keeps me away from PVP, but hopefully that will change soon.

Yes, I'm quaint new. I just needed someone from the corp to show me few tricks. I thought I could just jump in BC and pew pew, but reality is, you must start from the bottom. Frigs are fun and not the burden on the pocketBig smile

i can tell you that a long time ago for me was the combination of skills and isk (or lack of).
Skills cos when you begin the game you dont always choose the correct path of skills or race and you are expected to cross train alot and isk cos pvp is really expensive when there is no ship replacement program and you also got to save up for your investments in game. The time it takes to gather isk make it very prescious i believe to throw away in minutes literally.
Not everyon has access to high end DEDs or nice ratting systems. Also like myself, I only got limited time ingame so i must make the most of it so to speak cos time is a factor

This. The very concept of doing pvp and doing it "right" scares a lot of people. Sometimes (if not most of the time), they (or we) hide this behind the "I chose not to" or "I don't like pvp" arguments. I know a lot of people do this. I did this on my first few months of playing.

Lets be honest here..... "PVP" on EVE online is NEVER fair and if it is you are doing it wrong. The whole game is full of 1337 pr0 awesome guys who just cant see how bad the games pvp truely is.

Short list:

0.0 - bigger blob wins/ganking someone pve fit in belts, or anoms

Highsec wars - camping a station with ludicrus numbers for 1 guy/being "that" guy with 10 neutral RR waiting to tip the balance

Wormholes - pve ships being ganked by pvp fits

Missioner baiting - using agro mechanics to kill people who dont understand the game as well as you

Organised 1v1 - Oh no wait, 1VFleet i see!

Even on SiSi the test server where ships cost 100isk. There are people who log on and as for a fleet in FREE FOR ALL zones. Its PATHETIC when you think about it really. This is why I like so many others have had it with the game, once my plex buffer runs out thats its, bye bye internet spaceships

It goes on and on, eve PVP isnt "fun" its just basical shin kicking, and the winner being the person wearing the bigger boots.

The whole game would need a complete overhaul for its pvp to be dynamic and "fun" for more people.

This is comming from a 2004 player, who has exclusivly been pvping since 2005

Edit to add more valid reasons:

Why pvp against aliances with unlimited backing who see thier ships as "throw away" with full reimbursement offered????

The whole jump clone system is jsut bad!!

Implants and training time jsut bad!!

Lag/Bugs and the logs showing nothing!!

CCP KILLING all fun pvp ships and making us all fly 1 beuge brick with civilian gattling guns
