I recently fit a Loki with the intention of running L4 missions based on a fit I came across on BattleClinic. The ship has surprised me in the amount of abuse it can take, but I'm not trying to understand *why*.
in EveHQ, the fitting is listed as having 33,862EHP (Eve: 24,444), and when using the "omni-damage" selection on the drop down, it shows "tank-ability" at 345.32dps*.

Do I understand it correctly that tank-ability represents the amount of damage you can take per second without it overpowering your ships ability to repair/regenerate it's defense?
Is EHP vs. tank-ability simply a balance between passive tanking and active tanking?

Also, if your ship has 10,000 EHP, does that mean that the ship can take a total of 10,000 damage, and if so, how are reppers factored in?

I'd like to build a decent PvE Tengu, but I can't get the tank-ability out of any fit that matches the Loki fit, and getting the EHP high up is presenting a problem as well.

*Info on the Mid slots on the Loki, if needed, are as follows:
Cap Recharger II x 2
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II x 2
Large Clarity Ward Booster I
Experimental 10mn Afterburner

Only other defense related item is a Medium Core Defense Field Extender I rig.

"Omni-damage" refers to a theoretical scenario where your enemy is shooting even damage on all 4 spectrums. 25% EM, 25% explosive, 25% thermal and 25% kinetic. This never happened. It will never happen. Don't rely on this ever. It's never a value that work "IRL". It's only an ~EFT number~ so leave it at that. You want to input NPC damage profiles in EFT and load that profile to measure your true tank against that faction/weapon type and load that profile to get your true tank-ability for that mission.

>Also, if your ship has 10,000 EHP, does that mean that the ship can take a total of 10,000 damage, and if so, how are reppers factored in?

Yes, effective HP is what you get after accounting for resistances against the inbound damage type. Reppers are not factored in. Repping power have nothing to do with _effective hit points_.

The "345.32 DPS tank-ability" you seam to refer to would be it's repping power. Repping power is calculated after resistances have been applied and accounting for the repaired amount per cycle over time.

The raw attributes of a Large Clarity Ward Booster I (before applying skills and ship bonus) is 207 HP every 4 seconds. Therefore, 207 / 4 = 51.75 HP/s which is the raw tank-ability of that module on a ship with 0% resistances and zero bonus across the board. Now, hypothetically, your dual adaptive invulns reaches 50% resists against what's coming at you. 51.75 HP/s suddenly becomes 103.5 HP/s (50% resist equals twice the tank-ability). In that case, that'd be your real "tank-ability".

It knows what you think.

Divide EHP by 3 and you'll get close to the total damage you'll take before your ship pops.

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.
