Why no ship appearance customization?

Most likely they will allow you to change colors from a preset pallete and add corp icons. Anyway, it will be a welcomed feature.

Same reason they do not have custom corp logos. everyone and their brother would be customizing stuff and taking up more and more memory on the servers

Clearly this feature is being added with a very specific purpose in mind :D

Wasn't something like this available on Sisi for a short time....say last year? I remember reading some posts about people being able to play with settings. If true then I can only surmise that the reason it's not here is due to performance issues either clientside, serverside or both.

Probably for most of us it'll be yet another feature we turn off to reduce ingame lag. I can see entering a system like Jita becoming a real pain having to load all those custom skin jobs.

Custom skins is a bad idea but you have multiple predefined turret modules a graphic option you can turn off as you mentioned. And those things move All I am talking about is the ability to change your ships color with a predefined tri-color scheme not a complete textural customization.

If they want to be fancy about it you can have the color be determined when the ship is constructed. But given the fact that EVE universe uses nano technology to brush your characters teeth. IT wouldn't be too far of a concept stretch to have controllable pigmentation nanites that can be programmed at any fitting station.

The link by Mfume does mention the art department making changes to the game to support this type of activity. I hope it is put in place soon.

I like the idea.

They could easily prevent the issue of pink and neon colored ships flying about by simply narrowing the color band of choices...create a palette so to speak.

I'd like to see this. I liked the video of custom skins they release a bit ago too, pretty cool!
