Never ceases to amaze me how people stoutly believe that number of players online is related to number of accounts subscribed.

It never ceases to amaze me how people like you think that has any relevance.

If no one is playing, then no one is playing. Something is wrong with the game. Just because they haven't run out their subs/remaining PLEXes yet is irrelevant. Kinda hard to have fun in an MMO that everyone has stopped logging in to.

However, you also need to take into consideration the thousands of accounts that are being banned for botting now, previously this was not as large a factor. I take that back, during "Unholy Rage" we saw a similar dip in numbers active online... but of course it recovered quickly as the effort was not consistantly ongoing.

What was mentioned about many players being online less often due to participation in the DUST beta also has merit.

And, when you get right down to it, no matter how many people are online on the average... if the number of active subscriptions continues to increase (for whatever reason) the game itself is still very sound (financially).

That being said, I do understand your point. I just think all factors need to be considered.

Anyone who quit over the UI change would have quit anyway because if you cannot handle that then there is no hope for you. Same goes for hulkageddon.

Not a case of not being able to handle it, its a case that if something you are doing stops being enjoyable then you won't pay for it. If you do then more fool you.

Some would not quit over the new UI or Hulkageddon but they may let some alts lapse, as the only way you get a message across to any RL corp these days is by affecting the bottom line.

True, there are always factors, and to have an objective opinion you need to look at all of them with some unbiased thought.

But then, I am more pragmatic than logical. So when I see a downward trend in players online and the disappointment of many of the forum community with recent changes and look at where it stands now, not where it might stand when other factors are taken into account, I find myself somewhat concerned.

Not concerned about the future of EVE. Or it's financial solvency. I am concerned that I'm seeing less players logging in over time. It might be little summer blip or it might be the pebble that starts an avalanche. I don't know. What I do know is that with less people logging in, there is less interaction, less people destroying and creating stuff and a higher concentration of old vets to new blood. And we know what vets do to noobs in this game, so it will skew even more if CCP doesn't come up with some content or enticement to get the numbers online trending upwards again.

Um... Your logic is lacking.... For the last 3 weeks, I have logged in only to change training queues, and on one account, not at all because it was over 22 days on the queue. Why... Skyrim dawnstar for the 360.

I have a friend who did the same for longer because of both skyrim and work. I'm back, work is keeping him away for now, but he will return. Normally we log in and play daily.

There are others like us. It's not eve, it's not the new UI, it's not hulkagedon, it's sinply life. Diablo 3, summer vacations, etc. Heck, Finland takes a month off in the summer. So really, who's online is not always an accurate relflection of plans to continue their subscription.

I'm not on board with dragging things to a tree being less enjoyable than dragging things into a box that takes up more room on my screen.

About the only thing the "I'm gunna unsub over it" card gets you now, especially over something so trivial, is amusement from the rest of the community.

How appropriate, since people have been making the same predictions for exactly that long.

If you want to see a real dip you should have been playing SWG when the NGE hit.

No, EVE is in far far better shape than many other MMOs, a lot of them new. WoW has bled what? a million subs in the last year? STO forced to go FTP after its numbers collapsed, TOR bleeding subs at a shocking rate.

Compared to all of these EVE is positivly thriving.
