Can fliping and Drones?

If I am mining with combat drones deployed (set to aggressive) and someone flips my can looking for a fight. Will my drones auto attack him and allow him to fire on me? I clearly don't want to fight a can flipper in a mining barge, just wondering if my drones might get me killed.

No. Although if he shoots you, your drones will probably auto-aggress.

Aggressive drones will only attack a target that is firing upon you and will only attack a target firing upon you if they are deployed before the first shot is fired.

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

Please Note: Any advice given comes with the caveat that nothing will be suitable for every situation.

That is what I was hoping for. I'm in high sec so if he shoots me he dies. I know he might kill me before the concord gets there, but at least knowing he would also lose his ship gives me some proteciton.

Well the can flipper is looking for you to fire first. Then he is free to attack you without concord intervention.
And your drones will not fire first unless you order them to fire first.

But the ganker attack is often different in that they already are planning on getting killed by concord.
So they want to alpha kill you if they can. One shot, in which case your drones will get set to attack him after he fires but you die and your drones go idle then concord shows up and kills him.

As an additional note or 2:

1) if he drops a can of your ores after flipping yours, DO NOT OPEN the one he dropped. That will flag you to him.
2) if he flips your can, and after about 30 secs of you doing nothing about it, he flies off, you may want to empty your can and bring it to base. Quite often they will be going to pick up a hauler to bring back and flip your can for the majority of its contents (while having an alt or buddy escort, sometimes cloaked).

There is a special Hell for people like that, Right next to child molestors, and people that talk in the theater. ~Firefly

No it won't you actually have to move, or at least attempt to move something inside the container to become flagged. Just opening a container won't do anything.
