The unified window is especially an annoyance when you deal with poses, corp hangars, and ships with fuel bay, ship main bay, corp hangar, etc like I do.

Those who say its great knows nothing until they try flying an orca or a pos.

You know you can open new windows with shift + click now, do you? I do POS managing myself and figuring out this made the job much easier.

Even though this new inventory is not entirely horrible, the older one was still better, there I agree. You had wider options on how you position your windows and once you did it, you could just continue based on a routine.

only to find them going back into the main inventory window every once in a while, and then you have to shift+click on the ship again(in the inv menu) to open it separately again.

Just how bad are you people?

The new UI has made everything I do much simpler and quicker.

What is it that you do?

I have to wonder if you play the game. Or if your play style is confined to tasks well suited for the UI. Because frankly having the UI take up 70% of my screen real estate as to fulfill it's stated goal as convenient isn't acceptable 90% of the time I need to utilize inventories.

Please, tell us the tasks you find it convenient.

Just chiming in to say I agree with the OP. I manage to cope with the new system, but it's annoying.

It doesn't seem to remember window layout. It always forgets the column view I picked and the sorting order. Focus seems glued to whatever ship you had active when you open the thing, expanding the ships "tree" when switching ships (I dunno how many ships you have in your station, but it's damn annoying my station containers that I DO want to see drop off the bottom), and of course it always opens the ship inventory instead of the (much more useful) hangar.

It also seems to only open a single window when you dock instead of the setup of 3 inventory windows I used before (ship inventory, hangar and my ships)

Also let me just say that there is a reason most file managers have stopped using tree representations of the filesystem by default. And contrary to the EVE inventory filesystems ARE actual trees. The EVE inventory is moving in the direction everybody else is moving away from.

Some things that could help:
- remove the ships from the inventory, either entirely (give them their own window back) or when the ships hangar has been opened in a separate window.
- make it possible to do every inventory action again without ever using the tree view (so we can blissfully forget it exists), opening each in a separate window
Most of the other issues I assume are bugs and will be fixed in due course.

Seriously guys, don't you know how to manage tree inventories? It is faster, cleaner and way more optimal than lots and lots of windows with click and drag.

Again, I ask, how is it you're utilizing the inventory, for what tasks?

I utilize Windows Explorer quite adeptly. But, then again I don't use it for every little thing especially when an origin and destination are staring me in the face already.

However, to expound on the Windows Explorer example, when I open a single file container it at least has the sense to open in its own window and not revert to some default location/window which is completely unsuitable for simple tasks.

Sed it before and i will say it again in regards to the hold shift button window thing:

add a toggle in the menu that flips the hold shift function, so that eve assumes shift is always pressed when clicking on bays cargo's and ships hangers

Actually, that would be a very desirable feature to the new UI which I have come to love. Have you suggested this in the ideas forum? It really is a good thing and I imagine not difficult to implement.

That would be why you like it. The UI is good for macro level management. But for frequent smaller tasks it's a PITA.

Thats just it though, the inventory system in EvE is not a tree system, so why have CCP tried to implement one?

The old inventory system worked fine, it wasn't exactly pretty or intuitive, but it did what it said on the tin. There were no suprises or guesswork involved. What?

Edit:

I can see from a macro level perspective moving large amounts of items around and doing large scale operations such as manufacturing why the new system would be easier to use than the old "Windows Everywhere TM" one, for sure. However, for smaller scale stuff like looting, mining etc... I just think the old system was better. So for the majority of players in reality we just have to learn to COPE with the new UI.
