Grid not loading?

Hey guys!

I was wondering if anyone has been having this same problem I have. Every now and again, when I'm in very large fleets (say, maybe around 100+), when we go through a stargate, I'll get a background change and a system change, but the grid itself will never load. I know this is not just lag, because the people in my fleet load the grid fine, AND if I quit eve and restart (while desperately hoping my 100+ fleet doesn't leave me), I'll load the same grid, also with no problem.

Soooo... anyone heard of this?

I had this issue in a Sisi mass test on mid February. I guess the errant code made it onto TQ. Bug report 127878, filed with an alt.

Note that in that test, my ship did get warped by a fleet warp and would move if I double clicked in space. I just saw none of it, just the results ( ship in a new location) when I re-logged.

So if it happens to you again, try re-logging right after a fleet warp is issued. You may get back on before the warp is over.

I experience this now and then. Not only with large fleets. After jumping in overview stays empty, if i rightclick in space gates etc do not show up either, i can't warp anywhere.
Fleetmates see me on gate, tell me to minimize window and maximize again. No fix. When it happens to me i immediately close the game and restart praying i won't get caught/probed down and hoping i'll be able to catch up with the gang.

Any update on this? Still happens quite regularly, once every 10 jumps or so in fleet. OS X Snow Leopard.

I also had this last night. After rebooting I would load grid fine for a time, but after a while of jumping the grid would load slower and slower. Had trouble keeping up with the fleet when we where making "best time" to destination.

I posted my report in another thread, but I'm also getting this issue far too much recently...

Just an FYI - every time I had the grid-not-loading issue, a simple log out and back on sorted it - I didn't have to quit out.

I have on the rare occasion had the other issue you mention, where things just get slower and slower. In that case, I did need to quit EVE entirely.

That's still not going to stop you dying horribly at the gate when you re-log and there's reds waiting for you Ugh

Well, I submitted this as a ticket and got the following reply:

Hi.

See if clearing your preferences folder helps, corrupt settings files can cause problems of this sort under some circumstances.

Exit the game and go to The users preference folder is located at: /Users/username/Library/Application support/

In there find the Eve Online folder and rename, move it to another location or your harddrive or delete it.

If you have OS X 10.7 the folder might be hidden so you'll need to do the following in order to un-hide it

1. Open the Finder, hold down the Option key, and then choose Go > Library.
2. Open the Terminal ( under Applications\Utilities ) then type or copy paste the following line.
chflags nohidden ~/Library/
After doing this the Library folder is unhidden

To hide it again type this in the Terminal
chflags hidden ~/Library

Do note that doing this unfortunately clears out all your settings as well as your your bookmark folders, it is thus suggested you rename or move the folder elsewhere to see if this works for you before deleting it.

Also note that copying the settings folder or any of it's files back may cause your problems to resurface, this includes the prefs.ini file.

Gotta say this seems like a copy/paste response that isn't specific to this issue. It assumes a corrupt preference file, but the issue only occurs when I jump systems when I'm fleeted with others (I solo fleet all the time with no problem), and never before in any other circumstance. This apparent generic response makes me wonder whether CCP acknowledges this as a distinct issue.

Anyway, because of the loss of all personal settings and that I only fleet with others once or twice a week, I'm not too keen on doing this without first checking whether anyone else with the same problem already has tried it and what the outcome was.

Anyone?

Have this issue now and then; although most of the time in large fleets just waiting it out works fine and eventually it loads. Other times (small gang), the grid just plain never loads.

Not sure this is a Mac specific problem, I have PC friends who have their grid not load from time to time when jumping in as well.

Also,

Can you... do that? When I hit "log out," it just quits my client and then starts it back up again.

Hmm... good point. Technically, you can 'log out': you're briefly returned the desktop, then after a few moments you make it back to the EVE log in. So I guess in practice it doesn't save much time, just however long it would take to run the launcher and hit 'play'. But at least you can click 'log off', go grab a drink, and be at the log-in by the time you get back. Fewer clicks is always welcome. :)

Had this happen again this weekend. it got slower and slower until it finally stopped loading all together. Tried the logging out and in trick and that got it bak, but not to what I would normally expect, and it lasted only e few more jumps until it got stuck again. Had to reboot to get the performance back.

I've experienced this multiple times now. Only when in fleets. I think i found out what action causes it to happen.
When i jump immediately when all fleet members jump i end up not loading overview on the other side. I found that if i wait till most of the fleet has jumped i can jump safely. That makes me conclude that it's somehow related to the processing of ships rezzing on grid on the other side all at the same time.

This is not only related to jumping gates. I had the same issue undocking with a large fleet when we all had to undock fast at the same time. Same as with gates. Waiting out most fleetmembers undocking and then undocking myself seems to avoid the problem.

Nonetheless, it;s a very annoying issue and it really pisses of my fleetmembers waiting till i'm logged back in again. It seems mac clients take much longer then the average windows client to log in.
