Assault Ship vs lvl4?

Currently soloing lvl3's very comfortably in a Harpy. Getting assault ships lvl5 as we speak, and will be training up light missile skills soon after for the Hawk (which has a better tank). Seeing as though I can burn through the hardest of lvl3's in a Harpy in minutes, tank very comfortably and will soon be in a better PVE assault frig (will also be aiming for Ishkur), is it feasible that I could do lvl4's in this ship class? Not done a lvl4 before so I don't know their intensity.

It could probably be done but why?
L4s contain mostly battleships and shooting battleship in a frigate is not something I would call fun.
Also think how much time it would take you to do those missions. A LOT of time.
If you like doing pve in AFs then start doing hisec exploration. Ishkur is great for that and you can do most sites ( in Serpentis/Guristas space when flying Ishkur ). Of course other AFs will also work but that depends on space.

EDIT:
The jump in difficulty from L3 -> L4 is huge.

Yes, you can, but only if you just want to derp around and prove that you can.

Don't expect great ISK/hour, and also some high end BS will be difficult to take down with AF raw DPS.

If you can fly an AF well, you're not far away from a HAC anyway.

Space. It seems to go on and on forever. But then you get to the end and a gorilla starts throwing barrels at you.

the only difference between lvl3s and lvl4s is the amount of damage you will have to deal. with such a small and agile hull, tank should be no problem as long as you kill the webbing frigs first. which again should not be a problem since you have small weapons and relatively high dps. it will obviously take mch longer than in a proper faction BS since the rats in lvl4s tend to have some relevant active tank (~100-200 hp/s is my guesstimate).

I should buy an Ishtar.

Yes. For entertainment purposes only.

If you do it with another player who is very competent in a stealth bomber, if you both sig tank, you might end up with a functional team. AF for the webbing/scram frigs, bomber with torps for the BC & BS. Just be sure to send in the AF first to pop any webbers prior to the bomber landing on grid.

Lvl 4s in an AF? Very doable and fairly easy one the webbers are gone. At all time efficient? Not the least bit.

If you want to do it for fun, go for it. If you're at all thinking about ISK/h, you're better off getting a bigger ship or sticking to lvl 3s where more targets will melt quicker to your frig.

It's possible to finish a level 4 in an AF. I wouldn't recommend it. Frigate fleets in l4s are pretty exciting, though.

AFs, like everyone else has said, are fun in L4s, but not efficient.

A frig fleet doing them sounds like a blast though. Two SBs and two AFs would clean house if flown well.

killing npc battleships in a frig is like watching paint dry imo...

The harpy is 10x better, you can get 360dps with void and rocket launcher, if a spr drake tht does 300dps can down lvl4 bs so can a harpy.

Sort of relevant: Do Heavy Assault Cruisers work for L4s, then?

I would think so, since they are the bigger brothers of Assault Frigates.

Honestly I don't think I'd bother doing Level 4's in anything other than a marauder these days. Frigate or crusier (T3 included) require too much management. It's a little tedious after a while and if you want to make ISK from Level 4's you really need to chug through a lot of them.

You can do many l4s in a Rifter that costs less than most mission BS hulls.

If he's flying a Harpy and Hawk with reasonable skills, his HAC choices are an Eagle and a Cerb. Not exactly L4 isk-printers, those two.

Besides the fact that Cruiser 5, Medium Weapon skills and the HAC skill itself are missing - another two to three months depending where he starts.

Running level 4 missions in an assault frigate is a lot of fun. I do it in an Ishkur when I am bored. Have not flown a Harpy or Hawk in awhile but don't think you will have much trouble. Just make sure you take out the webbing frigates first and read up on the missions so you don't aggro the whole pocket right away. With the resent bump to AFs, with solid skills, you should be able to get 300+ dps. And be small and fast enough to do all of them. If you are worried about losing your ship, jump onto the test server and see try it. See what works and what doesn't. That is how I learned to fly lvl 5's. :)

An AF is NOT the fastest way to run lvl 4 missions, but it is not the slowest either.

As far as the other posters, don't worry about them. Must have already run every missions 100's of times and just want to get them over with as soon as possible. To them, Eve is a part time job. Just a grind to see how much isk they can make as fast as possible. (imo)

If you enjoy flying AF's, then fly AF's. Eve is suppose to be fun. Enjoy it.

Just my 2 isk, hope it helps.

You can do most L4 in just about any size ship if you know what you're doing. But many NPC ships can tank around 100 dps. So an AF doing 200 dps is going to take much longer to take down that ship than a battleship that might be dishing out 700 dps or more.
