return of the mac mini question

hey folks. iv recently lookd up apple computer again, and iv seen theres a new mac mini now iv had dreams of 50inch monitors and giant space battles since this game came out back in the day so heres is my uestion for you smarter mac users as this will be my first mac purchase

the new stats of the mini is:

2.7GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7
8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
500GB Serial ATA Drive


Eves minimum requirements ar listet below.do you guys se it posible for eve to run smoothily on a mac mini setup like that? or do you recorment i buy the imac computer insteed and lvoe out on apple tv?

Minimum System Requirements:
•The client does not run on a PowerPC (G3/G4/G5) based Macintosh Machines. laptops or Mac Minis equipped with Intel graphics chipsets such as the GMA950 or X3100. Versions of the Macbooks and Mac Minis with Nvidia graphics chipsets are however supported.
•Supported hardware is MacBook Pro laptops, Mac Pro machines and iMacs. All these machines have to meet the following minimum requirements below:

•CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo with at least 2.0 Ghz speed
•OS: Mac OS X 10.6.7 or higher.
•Video: ATI HD2400, Nvidia 9400GT, or Intel HD 3000 or higher with at least 256 MB VRAM and supports Shader Model 3.
•RAM: 2048 MB or more
•HD space: 20 Gb
•Network: Broadband Internet connection

Please note: Macs with the ATI X1600 or ATI X1900 graphics chipset are not supported, but may be able to still run the game by disabling the "Load Station Environment" option.


Recommended system configuration for running EVE Online: •CPU: Intel Core i Series with at least 2.0 Ghz speed
•OS: Mac OS X 10.6.7 or higher
•Video: ATI 4870, Nvidia 8800GT or higher with at least 512 MB VRAM
•RAM: 4 GB or higher
•HD space: 20 Gb or more
•Network: Broadband Internet connection

Do note that MacPro computers allow changing graphics cards

A mac mini with the specification you've given will be sufficient for running EVE. I dual box with moderate graphic settings on my mac mini at around 30-40fps. Though mine is the 2009 model and has much less ram, a weaker graphics card and processor.

Just be aware that the current mac client is very buggy, will crash a lot if you're in a fleet or have voice chat enabled. When trying out the test client (the one with the new font) I have found it much more stable, so I'm hopeful for the next expansion.

Get an SSD instead of the 500gb drive. Performance will go through the ceiling.

Definitely, and if you need more disk space it its worth it to add the second 750gb disk for e.g. media files, etc.
