The new mining barge expansion.

I'm sorry but everyone else makes hard choices day in and day out so should high sec miners. You won't see me going for paper cannon high output mining anytime soon, the losses easily negate the extra ISK made.

Missions runners use different ships for missions, everything from shuttles to battleships. Some mission runners prefer a massive perma-tank, others subscribe to gank-is-tank, others like to use AFK drone boats, etc..

Come Winter, miners will have the new ability to own several barge/exhumer ship types and will be given the ability to SWITCH between those ships depending on their needs at the time, e.g. afk mining, fleet ops, minimizing hauling, minimizing hulkageddon, etc.. (This new "owning and using different mining ship types" feature is explicitly stated IN THE DEVBLOG, FFS!)

Why do we need a thread on this?

there's an alarming number of people that want a cookie cutter fit and to simply fly the best mining ship and don't want to be bothered with making actual decisions. yes they are missing the whole point of modules and specialized ships. i think they just want it to be mining = hulk and can complain that the hulk lacks yield, tank, and cargo all at once - it's the best after allRoll

unless the lowest ehp mining barge is being buffed to the point where it'll take more than a catalyst to gank it, then you're going to be wanting a skiff. (infact, as some one with only one account i'm considering mining with a skiff in 0.0 to tank the rats because my poor ass can't afford a faction booster) if you're mining in a fleet then you want the hulk as it's going to outmine everything.

You could also be ATK and paying attention if you're going for max yield. A Hulk needs no tank to survive ganks if you're paying attention.

The miners are to blame. They cried for buffs to exhumer defenses while ignore the point that they weren't using the defenses already available to them. CCP is just giving them a balanced version of what they wanted.

The hulk will still exist in essentially its current form, as I understand it. It's still going to be paper-thin with a high yield. That means it will finally be pushed into its always-intended role: fleet operations in areas that can be secured. That and being used by obstinate miners determined to cry on the forums when their super-expensive ship blows up for the third time in a month before ragequitting over their inability to adapt.

Except for poorly fitted industrials, mining ships what biggest chance of getting ganked in hi-sec, while doing the job that pays the least isk/hr. Compared to e.g. missions runners, i would say miners make hard choices every day.

Yeah, I was hoping to stick around HS for a while, but depending on what rats you're dealing with, I think you should be able to tank them long enough for T2 medium drones to do the killing even without deadspace stuff.

maybe if i had drone interfacing at V, which i don't, etc. i just find it easier to swap to a drake and kill the rats, i kill them fast enough that the bounties are roughly equal isk to what i lose from not mining so it's all good.

There's nothing saying that the Hulk will mine less. You will now have the choice between common Hulk fittings, and you won't have to strain your brains to figure out how to fit them, you'll just have to stretch your wallet a bit to have one of each.

And yeah, miner's whining biting them in the butt when it's listened to. Who would have thunk (I hear echoes of the insurance nerf).

I'm a firm believer in Tippia's Maxim "For every troll pushing some agenda, there are 10 people lurking in the background who honestly believe the troll has a point"

So confronting trolls and pointing out exactly why what they're spouting is worthwhile because hopefully some of those people in the background will pay attention (plus, it's fun).

How am I painting everyone with the same brush?

Well thanks for all the replies, Think some people's comments and discussion were beyond the scope of the thread, I wanted. But still feel free to post on them, but I might not respond to them too much.

Also thanks for the timely defense Pita porto.

For the guy who keeps bringin up WiS. The Nex store was created for people with skills and plenty of isk to burn. Someday you will be there, and the store won't seem so intimidating.

There was a Test guy. You had some good points, but I was hoping to see patch notes, before I started to speculate.

Seems like the general impression I was left with, after catching up. Was that this barge expansion is actually small and suppose to be just mildly fun. After being swayed to feel that way, my problems do seems a little farcical. When I first read this dev blog, I felt it was suppose to be pretty big and pretty dynamic. But perhaps it is just small and not much to be bothered with.

Also someone kind of insinuated, I was hoping for immortal and overpowered fittings. Fittings are rather hard to discuss, since it does get lopsided pretty fast. I mostly feel most people are dicks, and so one must take everything they can, to help deal with said dicks. I would prefer, all the dicks to be dealt with before fittings were discussed. ( One must know what party they are going to, before one can decide on the appropriate attire.)

Also, I do also think, third world countires will never go anywhere and always bring down the party.
